It's 2006, we are no longer in the dark ages of HIV/AIDS. We all know it is a hundred percent safe to be friends who has HIV, and any questions you have you can ask a doctor. She probably needs a friend right now.

Well, If she only has HIV, she technically isn't dying yet is she? People don't start "dying" until they get full blown aids. Magic Johnson is still kicking isn't he? From what I hear he is quite healthy.

You should definitely be her friend. That could be the difference between life and death. There are medications out there that keep the immune system from being completely irradicated, provided the person lead a happy and productive lifestyle. But thats not why you should be her friend.

You should be her friend because it's better to die young and happy than to live long and miserable.

Cheers.

How old are the friends who gave you the "stay away" advice five? That's cold and it sounds to me like your friend with HIV is a better friend to you than some of those people. Having a Friend for 7 years takes alot, it sounds like she is a wonderful person and alot of people have the opinion to stay away from people with HIV like they are some deciesed person that can give them HIV by talking to them which we both know is not the case so she probably does not have alot of people on her side right now, she needs you to be there for her, there is nothing you can do for her medically but you can make her happy and comfortable by spending time with her and showing her your not like every other ignorant person in the world. Besides with how much it sounds like she means to you could you really live with yourself (after she passes) knowing you turned your back on her? Besides HIV is just the begining she has a long way to go, so just stay by her side. She is just as beautiful now as she was b4 she contracted HIV.

If you can handle this responsibility then I would say go for it. That is what a true friend would do for another person. Realize however that your friend may have to end up in a hospice somewhere when things get to the near death stage. It will take it's toll on you emotionally, finacially but in the long run you will have done something for another that will be with you forever and you can be very proud of.

Yes, if that is truly your friend then this should not be a question. Just be carefuk and very sanitary. As long as you take the proper precautions you should be fine. I'm sure she can probably use a good friend at a time like this.
