Someone I know got 3 years in prison, and went down last month but had already done 6 months by that point in custody.
I want to know when he is released so that I can be aware that he is out!!! Is this possible?

This has all been very helpful but not entirely sure what prison he is in, think its bedford???!!
And if I contact the prison, will he know that I've been asking??
I don't fear for my safety, I'd just like to know when he is released for my own peace of mind!!!

If he is in a state prison, look up your state's prisons online and most will tell you the day the person was admitted, the length of sentence, and if they were released. Go to google.com and put your state and inmate lookup.
For federal prisons, the info is less specific. There website is www.bop.gov. If they are in a county jail or detention center, you can't get that info online.. Good luck, hope this helps.

If you are the victim you should be notified before the inmate is released. You can call the prison, parole board, or check the website for a release date.

Contact the prison by sending a letter to the Warden - and ask him/her.
They will tell you whether or not that person has been released or is still there.

Go to www.vinelink.com and click on the state in which he is in custody. From there, you will be able to check custody status if that facility provides online inmate information to VINELink. The website is provided as a service to victims of a crime.

yeah, wait at the prison door for the next 2 and half years, he / she might get released sooner for good behaviour
seriously, if you fear for your safety, you should get advice from a solicitor, or the police.
