Absolutly not! It pains me to think of people going to hell. Even some people who have gotten on my last nerve, I don't revel in the final destiny if they are not saved. It pains me to no end.

We recently had a friend of the family pass away, and I do not know if she was saved or not.

I don't think people who live every day to try to get into heaven will necessarily get there. I think Heaven is reserved for those that live a good life because it's the right thing to do. Not those who do it because there's a reward involved. If a child gives back a candy bar he stole from the store because of a guilty conscience, he deserves to be rewarded. If a child gives back a candy bar from the store because his parents told him it was wrong and he's hoping they let him keep it anyway- has he really learned anything?

They like to claim that they hate the idea of people going to hell, and then in the same breath will give you a dissertation on exactly who is going there and what kinds of torments they will suffer...practically salivating over each imagined horror that will be inflicted on everyone who disagrees with them. It's the ultimate revenge fantasy, and they believe it whole-heartedly regardless of the inconvienent logical implications.

"That the saints may enjoy their beatitude and the grace of God more abundantly they are permitted to see the punishment of the damned in hell."
-- Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica

Part of the appeal of Christianity is the "moral superiority" (a.k.a. 'holier-than-thou') attitude it can instill in people. Because it has a not-so-clearly defined set of absolute 'moral values', its adherents will claim that they know what is absolutely right and absolutely wrong, and that's where the comfort comes in.

A real Christian is sad knowing that so many people will reject Jesus, and as a result of their free will decision, be cast into the Lake of Fire for eternity.

There is no pleasure in knowing that those people will suffer for all eternity, every second. Anyone who claims they would delight in that, is not a real Christian.

I don't know, but I find it interesting that I've never heard anyone giving a eulogy say "He/she was a bad person and he/she is burning in hell right now."

Heaven might be described as a reunion to be with GOD while Hell might be described as a separation from GOD.

It is the stroking of one's ego to alleviate emotional insecurity.
