Truth is, female pattern baldness is much more common than most people realize. It tends to be underestimated because women go to great lengths to hide it.
There are many different types of female hair loss
Alopecia, Thyroid problems, PCOS...
Woman hide baldness or hide themselves.
When hiding baldness most woman do it very well, with wigs/ hair pieces & hats.
Many others (& I do know MANY others) seclude themselves away from the world in shame and embarrassment. Its devistating to say the least.
The public has come to accept the bald man, but shows very little sympathy or understanding towards woman.

As the first answer has said, testosterone - in particular, an excess of testosterone - causes baldness.
In men, the genes that cause Male Pattern Baldness come through the maternal line, so if your uncles on your mother's side were bald, there is a good likelihood that you will be bald.
In women, baldness is rarer because the amounts of testosterone produced in female bodies are smaller, but female baldness does occur in the form of "Alopecia".

Testosterone which is why all those body builder women have to shave every day and have deep voices because of all the steroids they take.
If you like bald women then maybe you should hang around the radiotherapy ward at your local hospital, you will meet some there.

I dare to disagree with one previous answer. Men are prone to baldness for genetic reasons, which, from my own observation, follows the MALE line, sometimes jumping generations. As for the testosterone theory, I am no doctor. If you want to try, here in Brazil, we use massage with "babosa" (aloe vera) - but fresh. I can guarantee nothing. Anyway, men worry too much about it. The worst thing you can do is grow a beard to compensate! (Unless you feel you have to hide your face). I'm not being facetious. With my bald friends without beards, baldness has actually made them more attractive.

Male baldness is generally related to testosterone levels and happens naturally. It is actually a sign of your virility so don't fret about it....
Hair loss in women (and some men) is different, it is caused by poor nutrition, ill health or stress.

Its all in evolution, like nobody fancied a bald woman a hundred thousand years ago so they didn't breed - thus their bald genes are quashed.
But don't think I'm insulting bald women - I don't want hate mail. Besides, who knows how many hairs I'll have on my noddy in a few years time.

The "baldness" gene is carried by women, and it is dominant, but only when it's in men. When a woman has the gene, it acts like a recessive gene (meaning it doesn't express itself if there is only one of it). So, if a woman carries the gene, her sons will suffer from "male-pattern-baldness", and if she has TWO of that gene, then she will lose her hair too.
So, this gene gets to express itself in men, but it's usually hidden in women.

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tr.im/lefJ1
Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour.
Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland.
Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.
