All you have to be is there for her. That's the important part. Make it known that you are there for anything whether it's a person to relieve worries, pray with, or just go out and get dinner.
The biggest thing to let her know is that you are praying for her daughter, her, and her family. It's important that you are there for her emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I'll keep your friend and her daughter in my own prayers. Best of luck--I know it's hard but you've got really great intentions!

Prayer is a huge source of comfort. Prayer can work wonders; actually it's God who works the wonders and gives peace. Just be there for your friend and what ever you can do to help do it. If they ask you for something that you can do for them, then by all means do it. If they need someone to just sit with them or cry with them, be that person. Be there and do what ever you can. God bless you and that family andI pray the surgery goes well.

If they have a belief system and want spiritual comfort, then ask them if they would like to pray with you. It is always hard when something is wrong with your child so just being there as a friend could help very much.

Thats a tough one
Some good books related to suffering....
I like a book called "The Hidden Smile of God" which is about people who went through suffering in their lives.
I also like Joni Erickson Tada and she gave a wonderful talk at the National Conference on the Savereignty of God and Suffering and you can freely download it and listen to it
for listen... lemme find the link for you...here
http://www.desiringgod.org/Events/NationalConferences/Archives/2005/
another person who had a daughter who died was Steve Saint who was the real person who was shown as the little boy in the movie End of the Spear, he talks about suffering in the sane conference... you can listen to both... same conference
I find the book "Future Grace" to be very theraputic and has a reading for each day for amonth... I also recommend that.

Something Specially
For You
I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard-
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke no word!
I didn't ask for wealth or fame
(I knew you wouldn't mind)-
I asked Him to send you treasures
Of a far more lasting kind!
I asked that He'd be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings
And my friendship to share your way
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small-
But it was for His loving care
I prayed the most of all.

Just by being there for her. Praying for her daughter to come through the surgery and for her to have the strength to help her daughter through this difficult time. Also taking a meal to the hospital and things like this are always appreciated.

Be there for your friend, and make sure your friend knows you're there. Offer to pray for the girl. Offer to help out by say, bringing dinner or perhaps do a little yard work or clean the house.
Good luck to the daughter. And blessings for you for thinking of her, and her parent.

The best comfort you can give is yourself - be there for her during the surgery. Provide meals for her so that she doesn't have to pay for hospital food. Action speaks louder than any words. "Pure and undefiled religion is this; caring for orphans and widows in their distress." While she is not an orphan or a widow, she is in distress and caring for her shows pure and undefiled religion.

Trust in the Lord, our God, Muslimah.
Have Faith.
If you have the Charles Landsborough song "My Forever Friend", I'd suggest you listen to it now.
Trust me when I say this, you'll be happy that you did what your Brother asked of you.
Rest assured that we shall pray for her and you.
Pax Vobiscum, Pax Dominic

Pray with her. Start a prayer chain for her daughter. (This is where you call someone to pray and they call someone etc. until there is a whole "chain" of people praying.)
