Why do a few Christians and a few Muslims disagree so much?

I've never read the Koran so I am asking in complete ignorance...are their texts THAT different and I've heard they share some of the same prophets...maybe Moses? I'm not sure how that works..can someone clarify why the issues are prevalent at times? Thanks!

So far i have only come across Christians attacking Muslim and Muslim views. My stand point as a Muslim is that as a christian you are free to worship however and whoever you want its not my business and im really not interested. Everything about Muslims are always being attacked, and i will always try to give a true and honest reply without bashing Jesus....why would i want to, i love Jesus he is one of Gods prophets. If Christians want to worship him as god that is there business. Everyone has to worry about themselves. All the prophets from Adam onwards are the same as they are for Christians all except Mohammed who they dont see as a prophet, fair enough. Why should i care?, hes the last prophet to me, so why should they care? I want to live in peace, raising my children, worshiping my God and not feel under constant attack, for my Muslim brothers and sisters all over the world to be free to do the same. If my neighbor does not share my views either religious or otherwise he is still my neighbor, but if that neighbor is trying to take my home and declare it as his, what would anyone do regardless of religion or nationality. Would you just hand over the keys or would you fight for your home, would you prefer Muslims just to be silent while they are being slapped? I'm sorry but that will never happen. Whether they be Christians, Catholics, Jews or atheist no one has the right to take something that's not theres, no one!

The way I see it is this (as an Anglican Christian of open mind), is that our "branch" of Christianity was born of Saint Paul, who prior to his conversion to Christianity was a Roman butcher to say the least. To them, anything south of Suez wasn't there, or was out of bounds, so the prophet Mohammed was unknown to them.

People who wage war in the name of religion do not belong in this world regardless of the colour of their frock.

So to put this into context of your question, a few Christians in seats of power seek to use religion to stir up support for their misguided ideals and quest for power & control on a global scale. They take with them a few weak minded individuals who are brainwashed into believing that they are right, and everyone else is wrong. Lots of people then suffer because of the acts of a few small minded egocentric individuals.

The same can be said for a few Muslims that do exactly the same.

However, the vast majority of both faiths just wish to live their lives in harmony and peace - just as both books state.

I don't have a copy of the Qu'ran, but I personally know an Imam, who is a very reasonable man. Not the radical priest that the media would have us believe they all are.

I've probably met more "Fire & Brimstone" Catholic priests that spend their time preaching "eternal damnation" for those who don't do as the Holy Father says. They worry me more.

I haven't read enough of the Quran to represent it, however, I've listened to a Muslim woman express her feelings (& perspective) about life's challenges and her options for solutions, and I've seen the surprise in her eyes when I responded with ideas based in 'Christian' principles. Her face showed a mix of mild astonishment (really, I surprised her) and happiness, warmth, when I encuraged her to seek strength and guidance from Allah (I don't have a problem calling Jehovah Allah, any more that when a friend calls me by something other than my full given name).
I seems that the two of us, at least, were moving along a similar wavelength.
I can't imagine how the disagreements, divisions and differences will be reconciled, but I clearly have hope based in personal experiences.
It's encouraging to notice how many people want to rise above the differences. Imagine: some even think differences and variety are the things that make us each unique. What a notion!
