I like you = Something about the person makes you feel comfortable enough to spend time with them. You appreciate them, understand them and trust them to a certain degree. It would be someone who you can identify with and have a great time with, but also have a fairly long-standing (lighter) emotional tie with them.
I love you = Someone who you are emotionally drawn to (deeply) for reasons unknown to you. You know what you enjoy about the person but can't always put it into specific words. The feelings aren't always able to be described, but you "feel" something extra is drawing you towards that person.
The real confusing part in all this is trying to figure out lust.
Lust = I want to hump him/her like an animal. Some people could get confused just trying to figure out if they like/love someone bad enough just to bump uglies with them, or if they just have that urge and other feelings really aren't there. Most the time some people can't figure that our until after the fact. lol

Well u have to start with "I like u" before u can jump to "I love u" To like someone is to like spending time with them, u have fun together, it is just the beginning stage of getting to know each other. If it turns into love then it's of course much deeper. When u love someone it's more than enjoying spending time together, it is someone u see a future with and someone u treasure in your life, it's the person that u put above others in your heart. When u truly love someone it isn't someone u could live with.........it is someone u couldn't live without.

It depends on how loose the term is implied. If it is used as a salutation (good bye or something) some women are in such a habit of saying it, they really disregard what it truly means.
Girls will tend to use "I really like you" as a way of saying "I could fall in love with you".
Guys typically say "I like you" as a way of saying "I don't think this is going any farther".

big difference, hard to explain though. Love is something special, and makes one feel good, you think about that person all the time, and dont want to be without them. Like isnt like that.

I Like You...means you like the person for whom she/he is and you have a friendship...nothing more.
I LOVE YOU....when said to a partner....means you love that person unconditionally.
