I got conned paying for lifetime membership, clearence and unlimited downloads, with a company that directed me to the free downloadsite Limewire. Out of anger I will still use it, as far as I'm concerned I have a E-receipt for this and it's not my job to monitor con artist compaines. I have over 800 hours of audio books but as far as i'm concerned i tried the legal way but got stung

It's not illegal to have or to use or to publicise. It's only illegal to break the law with it, and then it's the breaking of the law, not the using of the software, thats the crime.

It is legal to own spraypaint. It is illegal to graffiti.
It is legal to use Limewire. It is illegal to breach copyright law.

So, provided you are only sharing files for which you own the copyright, or have a license to share, or files without a license, you're fine. If you're only downloading files for which you own a license or that are not licensed, you're fine too.

The only time you're breaking the law is when you download or share files for which you do not have permission, and then it is not the use of Limewire that is illegal, but the sharing of the files. It would be similarly illegal to share the files by giving away copied CDs with them on.

Limewire itself is not illegal. It's downloading copyrighted software that is illegal.

I'm sorry that you got stung. I've been stung, too, on eBay, and neither eBay nor PayPal wanted to do anything about it.

It is not illegal to download in Switzerland, you are legaly allowed to make 7 backup copies of anything you own.

The only part illegal in Switzerland atm is uploading. Downloading for yourself is legal as long as you don't sell what you have downloaded to other people.

It's illegal everywhere- because for eg, if you want to download music from there, it's done so without the knowledge of the artist...doesn't stop people from using it though
