Virtually impossible! Any pathogenic bacteria/viruses present in the sewage and not destroyed by fermentation in the septic tank are likely to be destroyed by soil organisms even if they leak out. Then the apple tree roots only take up inorganic materials, the cell walls being designed to exclude foreign cells. Then, even if infected, the plant tissues continue to battle any foreign organisms throughout the tree into the fruit, by which time there will be nothing there that your immune system cannot handle unless a duck infected with bird flu has crapped on your apple. Problem arises if high levels of toxic metals like mercury, cadmium etc are in your tank, and it leaks, but even this is unlikely unless your tank is serving a large industrial town, which , I assume, it ain't..

absolutely not! Most people would be surprised to know that they play and grow gardens on their septic tanks everyday. It's right next to your home and will not contaminate plants. It will actually probably make the plant healthier and stronger (natural fertilizer) It's just like the apples from the orchard fertilized with manure and composts. Probably better for you than all of the other process and mechanically separated foods on the market. If your septic ever goes bad, the tree may have to go if it's right on top of the tank, or the roots damaging the tank, but thats about your only worry...Happy eating!

No, the tree acts as a natural filter. It takes the nutrients from the soil along with the air and light that it requires to live and produce the fruit. The septic tank proximity just means a good source of fertilizer.

We would not in any respect comprehend precisely what befell that evening, yet one component is for particular. That became a huge-*** apple.

Aside from the soil actually TOUCHING the apple, the resulting product will not have any of the bacterium within it, as animal and plant bacterium are not universal.

The possibilities are "YES". The livers could be affected. You may get rashes. It may be indigestion. Wait for something to develop within 7 days of eating such apples. If nothing happens, you are safe.

Not if you pull them off the tree. But, if they fall off and lay on the ground, all bets are off ☺
But it's usually a good idea to wash things, even fresh ones, before you eat them. Even racoons know that ☺

If you wash it or make sure it doesn't have a worm inside it! Try picking them before they fall.
