Call the teachers and ask them what their observations about your son's abilities are. 2 weeks is a good follow up point, they will have had time to observe him & make opinions. BUT, unless you contact them again they may do nothing about it.

Staying in contact with the teachers will demonstrate that you are an active, concerned parent.

Well for one thing I can see a problem in his mother's spelling. If you don't do things correctly how do you expect him to? At 11 his schoolwork is his responsiblity, if he doesn't do it he doesn't do it, he fails the grade and is held back. The world doesn't end and most kids after one time wind up being better students and excell from then on. My daughter flunked out of highschool but carries a 4.0 gradepoint average in college (that's an A by the way in all of her classes she carries 12 units per semester). He might not be able to do well in a classroom setting, he might fare better on "independent study" or being homeschooled. Not everyone is cut out for going to school.

set up a meeting with all the teachers and principle and ask him to be evaluated he may not be challenged enough in school and they may be able to bump him up a grade. Tell your son he needs to put his best effort into his school work to show his teachers that his work is too easy the better he does the better the out come for him his.

Find a way of speaking to him in a way that he confides in you if something is wrong at school. He could be bullied or something like that. Then talk to his frineds, the teachers and the principal. If nothing helps, take him to a child psychologist.
