They should do it as soon as we have finished answering. First of all it is rude and even worse when they don't say anything about themselves. Are they waiting for us to ask them in turn?
I don't ask them, so would they feel left out?

No no, I meant in conversations, not on this site.

I think that they really should do the same.

Well, when I ask a personal question, I ask for a reason, and depending on the situation I volunteer after words, but for the most part I don't unless they ask, because sometimes I feel it is pointless, because I was the one who asked the question, not them, meaning they will answer but maybe don't care to know what I have to say.

Yes! But after you answer is going to be hard because they would have to answer everyone individually. I say if they are going to ask the question they should give their answer when they ask. I do want to say though, sometimes when personal questions are asked and the person who asked them gives their answer the question ends up being removed. This is why people don't give their answers. I know from experience!

It is polite to volunteer information even before you ask the other person. They normally respond better.

They should do the same but maybe they are afraid of looking self centered; so if they dont volunteer the information you should then ask them.

I get this all the time. They will never tell you about themselves. All they know is to ask you. Just tell them it's confidential or say "no comments", or say I don't feel comfortable revealing that.

What if it doesn't apply to them?
Guy asking girl, "Can I ask you a personal question? Are you pregnant?"
It would be pretty stupid if she said, "Yes", and he responded, "I'm not."

I think it depends on who you are talking to, what you are talking about, and what your relationship to the person is.

Not if "they " are your psychiatrists or doctors.

But I doubt you meant that;-) Obviously they can't say anything too personal till you ask them?
