Our prayers were known by god before he made the planet, and he took them into consideration the whole time. Things you pray about today could work out tomorrow because god heard you pray for it way back and has been making it happen for many years.

Brother, this Life is nothing but a Test for Here After. To test which one of us are good in deeds. For instance, a school teacher tests students by conducting exams. Teacher chooses good students & bad students by surveying the exam results. If teacher wants he can pass all students. Then what is the need to conduct exams.

Similarly life is a test. Here the teacher is God. If God goes on give evrything to evryone what we want, then where is the test???. If u want to reach God then the only way is through PRAY only.

Everybody keeps asking the exact SAME questions all of the time here on the R&S section. Next time, try to use the search function first.

I will simply say that if you are just praying to ask for stuff, and nothing more, then you do not understand prayer. God is not your personal genie.

The Kneeling Christian

...It is not too much to say that all real growth in the spiritual life-all victory over temptation, all confidence and peace in the presence of difficulties and dangers, all repose of spirit in times of great disappointment or loss, all habitual communion with God-depend upon the practice of secret prayer.

This book was written by request, and with much hesitancy. It goes forth with much prayer. May He Who said, “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint,” “teach us to pray.”

For God's Sake: What 147 elk taught me about prayer.
Philip Yancey

The author Brennan Manning, who leads spiritual retreats several times each year, once told me that not a single person who has followed his regimen for a silent retreat has failed to hear from God. Intrigued and a bit skeptical, I signed up for one of his retreats, this one extending over five days. Every attendee met for an hour each day with Brennan, who would give us assignments in meditation and spiritual work. We also met together for daily worship, during which time only Brennan talked. Beyond this, we were free to spend our time as we wished, with only one requirement: two hours of prayer per day....

Because there is far more to prayer than asking for what we want. In praying we acknowledge our dependence on God, we praise Him, we thank Him and we communicate with Him as child to father. What kind of a society would we have if children only spoke to their fathers when they wanted something! What a relationship that would be! We tell our earthly fathers about our lives and we share with them the things which are on our heart. Our heavenly Father delights in those confidences too.

For a start it's biblical: Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV)
Secondly, God created us and gave us free will. He has a plan for our lives but it is our choice as to whether we follow it or not. Imagine an entrepreneur like Richard Branson or Bill Gates, 2 of the finest businessmen of their time. When each of them started out in business they had a plan, but it was only through constant refining of their plans that their empires grew. This is similar to our plans with God. We could be given an idea by God to go out into the world and do some great work, but unless we are constantly going back to him to not only thank him for getting us this far but to find out where our next steps must take us, we have no direction, no purpose.
Lastly, there is the discipline of the thing. Jesus said Ask, and it shall be given you;seek, and you shall find;knock, and it shall be opened to you.For whoever asks, receives;and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, the door is opened.(matthew 7:7-8). This would imply the need to ask, seek and knock.

Christians cannot survive the journey without praying. It's what we do, what we are called to do.

The question is very pertinent. All these people saying that they pray to say thank-you are missing the point. The question obviously refers to prayers of, "please make so-and-so better, make peace in the world, make me a better person," etc etc. And of course, these needn't be asked - because apparently, that's what god does anyway. But in reality, all these are achieved by positive action and positive thinking. Praying might make the person feel better in themselves, but I don't believe that there's a god making a list of these prayers and ticking them off as he 'answers' them.

Of course when all your mates go down the Mosk anyway it is like hitting the pubs without the STDs and hangovers so it aint that important if God dont provide a Porsche Carrera in metallic gold as a result of a quick prayer is it.

Praying doesnt always mean "asking" or "wanting" for something from God. Surely, we can still pray to thank Him for all his mercy and blessing in our lives.

Because you don't just pray to ask God for stuff. Try thanking Him a couple of times for a change.
