This saying, " we are fighting them there so we won't fight them here " , seems more like a myth every day. As far as I can see the majority of the ones we are fighting have no need or desire to attack Americans in the US. They have us exactly where they want us. Nor can we pick and choose other military actions elsewhere....if we are being bled white in the Middle East.
So what is the solution?

Nuno: Never saw any combat but I was in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Some of this looks a little familiar.

RH SAUNDER: I am thinking our complete ingorance of Arab history, culture, religion and society has created the liklihood for MORE 9/11s...where it did not exist before. Remember : Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11

Moral: if we can't leave, that means we are stuck there. It means we ARE pinned down. Also there are lots of American generals on active duty now that say our forces are not sufficient to maintain control , are not properly equipped and are being worn down. And while yes, out side insurrgents from surrounding countries are drawn to attack us, there is an endless supply of them.
Also, having us there serves to take pressure off Iran. You think we can open another front?

Lundstrom: this is exactly my point. It serves Iran to have a way to keep the us drawn into a conflict we can't get out of. How much money, how many lives, and how much goodwill can we continue to squander in this no-win scenereo. How much democracy and freedom do you think we can impose on those people and is it worth it ? Why are we there?

Yes. Octobers U.S. death toll was the highest yet. Our troops continue to die in a battle that can't be won. When all the Iraq people are dead, maybe then our troops can come home.

What a very accurate description. the whole (so called) war on terror has become like a chinese finger trap. The Iraqi nation is allergic to our presence there and yet we are stuck. The whole idea that if we pull out, things will get worse is utter drivel. It is a catastrophic situation there already, because they are reacting to our presence there. The whole reason for all the violence is because we are screwing their country badly. If they where doing the same to our country, when would YOU stop fighting?

They are reacting to our presence and our manipulation of their so called fledgling democracy exactly as if they were allergic to us. If we leave, their reaction will stop. Jihad is, by it's very nature, a defensive war. If we are no longer screwing their country, they will not be defending it against us. the Vast majority of Iraqis want peace and stability. That can only happen after we leave.

It's a very short sighted catch 22 for them. they will not stop untll we are gone, and we will not leave untill they stop. But there are some in power that do not want us to leave. That is why P2OG has been sent to stir up trouble and create false flag terrorism. For example. there have been cases in which innocent Iraqis have been stopped in their cars, detained by our troops and questioned. After the interrogation, they are told to collect their ID's from another police station and returned to their cars. On the way to the other police station, thay have stopped, examined their vehicle and found them stuffed with hidden explosives.

It makes you wonder, how many suicide bombings have been carried out by our side to foment inter-tribal warfare, so we would have to stay to protect all that lovely oil?

When you ask "doesn't this aid the terrorists?" I ask whose terrorists are you refering to? Theirs or ours???

The fighting them over there instead of over here and any reference to 911 (as per some of the answers here) shows a totall and utter ignorance of the facts and the total brainwashing of the answerer.

1) Iraq had NOTHING to do with 911, they where never going to attack America and so there where never ever going to be any 911 attack coming from Iraq.

2) The fighting them over there makes it MORE likely that you may, at some stage HAVE to fight them at home. Something that was completely unthinkable before the Iraq invasion.

3) The whole Iraq debacle is based on lies, fraud, inept planning, incompetent political considerations, greed, denial, fantasy, delusion and is destined to fail massively. The longer you put off this realisation, the worse the defeat will be.

Now it seems the leaders in the west are very slowly waking up to how very badly wrong it has gone and they are totally clueless as to how to put it right. Instead of admitting that they have been wrong, and the planning, co-ordination, logistics, execution and reasons for the war have all been disasterously wrong, they blame everyone else and start behaving like 9 year olds.

"Have the dems got any plans? cut and run?" etc... It's pathetic!

What we need now are GROWN UPS! where the hell are they?

There aren't any in the democratic party, there aren't any in the republicans either.

The US is in deep trouble, the economy teetering on a massively inflationary spiral caused by the massive debt carried by countries that the US is pissing off badly. This does not bode well for the future.

The US needs some grown ups and FAST!

No clear solution, if the Allies stay they will instigate further violance upon themselves as well as tarnishing the image of the country they represent. We are becoming oppressors. However if the Allies leave, them untold numbers of innocents will suffer when a dictorship and facist regime is reinstated. (It would happen)

Hindsight is 20/20, the Allies should not have invaded. It's that simple. The only reasonable thing to do is to concentrate on building relations (and trust) with other Arab nations in order to drum up support and create some kind of global synergy. Let the Arab people rule themselves.

Well put "Paul K"

Well, your reasoning is flawed. Here is why:

The majorityt of the insurgents are not Iraqis, but instead are foreign nationals. That shows their will to travel to wage war and violence.

I would hardly claim that they have us exactly where they want us. Considering that we have a military presence on both sides of Iran, as well as a strong presence in the Gulf, I would condsider that we have Iran where we want them.....flanked.

Considering the lack of death by US forces as relates to not only total deaths but also the percentage pf deployed that die I would hardly consider that we are being bled in the Middle East. We loct 3% of our total population in ww2. At Iwo Jima we lost three times the quantity of soldiers in that one battle than we have lost in the entire Iraq conflict.

The solution is to continue what we are doing. Kill the terrorists and insurgents when their heads pop up, help Iraq expand its security forcs throughout the nation, then when Iraq can secure its own nation, we leave.

I notice that noone has demanded that we leave Korea, where we have been for more than 50 years, or Bosnia where we have been for more than a decade. The reason is simple...those were wars started by Democrats, and therefore are off limits to talk about us still being bogged down.

Do you realize that to equal the death toll of Korea that the Iraq war would have to last another 36 years at the current rate of attrition?

Wow, that's quite a reach there Stretch. First we are not fighting them in the streets here. So fighting them there is working.
Second, we are not pinned down as the term was originally coined. We are there by necessity, but not prevented from moving about.
Third, if the enemy presents itself by aggression on other fronts we will have to meet them there.
Fourth, the have us right where we want them.
Fifth, we are hardly being bled white as you say, if you compare this military action to any other in U.S. history, we are loosing far less overall, and by a wide margin, far less than the enemy.
Bush said this would be a long and difficult struggle, and we could all clearly see that this was the fact going in.
The only solution is to finish the job.

Do no longer be so brief sighted. The terrorists don't seem to be dull. They found out their lesson from nine/eleven, assault american and there will probably be repercutions. Attack their weaker allies and they are going to quit assisting us (ie Spain). If they assault the us now, it'll best fortify Americas clear up and harm their efforts. There are terrorist businesses right here and they are going to assault as quickly as now we have pulled out of Iraq and the American men and women have elected men and women in energy so one can refuse to combat at virtually any rate. Do you suppose they are going to no longer assault if we pull out? You are proper, the terrorists are already right here, ready to have an effect on our elections and push public opinion. Lets desire they fail.

I think the solution is to put the load on the Iraqis. Partition off Iraq according to religious sectors, train the Iraqi police force in each sector first, then pull our troops back to only enforcing the borders between the partitions. Let them know we want to leave, and will as soon as they can take over their own governing. But we've started this, and we can't cut and run and leave these innocent civilians to the fate they would suffer without our presence.

It is not the majority with which one needs to be concerned. It is the minority, that would love to see the US out of Iraq so that they can pursue their nefarious activities undisturbed by outsiders. How many more 9/11's do you need before you learn that this is a war, and in a war, if you don't win, you lose?

We screwed it all up. Was it better to have Sadam in control? The answer is: It seems like it.

The War in Iraq proves one thing. You can't give democracy on the end of a gun. The people have to want it and take it for themselves.

Such a nice myth!!!! Did you see any more terror attacks since we invaded??!!!!!!
And you got it all wrong, it's us that have them exactly were we want them, over there not over here.
The solution is for misinformed people like you to join the armed forces and go see for yourself, instead of making idiotic assumptions.
