For me to respect a person I have to see they have a kind heart and are honest and try their best. That is all the criteria I use.

Religion plays no part in whether i respect someone or not. Respect for me is an automatic reaction i have for every person i meet. If someone then behaves or acts in a way that is disrespectful towards me or other people then my respect for them goes. There are morons of every religion, race and social standing, everyone has my respect until they give me a reason not too.

I love people of all different religions, but honestly, it's easiest for me to respect Atheist or Agnostic people. That's not to say that I disrespect all religious people, but in general, I respect the godless more. I also have more respect for intelligent people.
As far as wealth, position, race, and beauty, I could care less.

Respect has absolutely nothing to do with a person's religion, wealth, position of power, intelligence, race or beauty.
A person earns respect by their actions.
A wealthy person in a high-power job who treats people like chit, earns no respect from me.

intelligence is a factor, of course.
wealth and position - depends on HOW they got that wealth and position.
religion - no, not at all. unless they're religious hypocrites: then i would lose respect for them.
beauty and race - what do beauty or race have to do with respect? you don't do anything to earn beaty or race.

No, religion is never a factor for me to respect or disrespect a person. I respect person who's respectable and respectful. I never respect a person who's rude to others, although this person may be famous, rich, great-looking, intelligent, or on a high social rank. NONE of these matters IF this person is simply disrespectful and unrespectable. EVERY one has to ear his or her own respect.

As I presently see it, religion is not a factor in respect (per se). Respect has to do with the number of similarities between people, which as those similarities increase, so does the potential bond between them.

The principal plus factor is demonstrated intelligence. A significant implication of this is disbelief in religion, as no truly intelligent person can believe in it. This is based on a logical analysis which I have posted elsewhere in this forum and won't repeat here.

I try to respect all people no matter what they believe or what they have, or what they look like.
Now as for personal relationships (friends), since I am a Christian, then these are the ones I fellowship with. Some of these are older, younger, wealthy, some not so wealthy, and from various cultures. But they are Christians.

Intelligence...but by that I don't mean high IQ. I mean the ability to reason and think logically.
Which, despite what many might say, does not at all impact my respect for a person's chosen religion. I think most people do choose it through a process of reason and logic.
