No.
A katana's and any sword's edge is actually very brittle. The katana having a much "harder" edge is much more likely to break it.
Swords don't cut other swords because they are sharp, they don't cut through moving armor because they are some kind of "master steel". They are steel like everything else and actually impacting the blade will dull or chip your blade. If a sword happens to "break" it is because it was poorly crafted or withstood a lot of stress and became weak.
Edge vs. edge cuts are avoided, unlike the movies and anime.
I suggest you get some cutting mats and a real sword if you want to cut objects (stainless steel is not a real sword- it is dangerous and will shatter).

An excellent way to destroy your sword, and endanger yourself, as well as anyone standing nearby. A samurai sword (and any other sword, for that matter) is made to cut people. It is a sharpened heat treated piece of steel. It will not cut stone lanterns, helicopters, machine gun barrels, or bowling balls. The laws of physics do not change for swords.
...unless, of course, you are talking about a toy bowling ball that's just a hollow plastic ball : )
Please don't try it, it can only end in tears....

first, katana can cut machine gun barrel after it being in use, something about heat from firing making it weaker or whatever.
now about the bowling ball. swords cut by one way sawing like action. with a saw you go back and forth until you are through the matterial, however the sword uses the momentum and a slash, a sawing like action only without the back and forth, to cut threw a matterial.
i think katana could cut through very little of the boweling ball if you could control your momentum to not break the sword, but cutting through it completely i believe is out of the question. although, i'm sure claymore could compete with a bowling ball on who'll break first.

That pretty much defies the laws of physics. The sword would have to be a greater mass, with more force behind it.

If you get a laser sharpened blade you could cut thru anything. I saw a demo on one sword and it was laser edged and it cut thru a car door with ease.
