I have just begun the VERY slow process of switching my puppy over to a brand of dog food called "solid gold" for puppies. It's supposedly an all natural very nutritious brand and was wondering if anyone here has used it or can tell me if it's really as good as they claim.

I had my dobie on it for a while b/c all the stuff it does NOT contain. She however has many allergies and something was in there that was bothering her. I thought the food was great though, it is a much higher quality than anything you can get in most pet stores. I ended up putting her on Wellness mixed with Innova Evo. The wellness is the venison and brown rice formula while the evo is the red meat. I mix the 2 b/c the evo has such a high protein amount it can give some dogs problems, along with her allergies. If I could have her on Solid Gold I would. It is very reasonably priced for how high a quality it is and it's got great ingredients. I had her on the Hunden Flocken.

Solid Gold in my personal opinion is the best. Very hard to find though. Yes look at the ingredients their are no bi products its all natural, corn isn't the 1st ingredient meat is and it doesn't have any dyes or anything in it. I love it and my dog does too!! Good Luck!!

I haven't tried Solid Gold for my 6yo Maltese. I do, however, feed him a Waltham (dry) and Hills Science (can) mixture. These, as far as I know, can only be purchased from a vet. Buying your dog's food at the vet is a safe bet because they can recommend what is best for your breed, size, age, etc. I've found that dog food available elsewhere usually contains sugar and many artificial and unnecessary ingredients.
Sounds as if you're starting off on the right foot with serving your puppy a healthy food. I got my dog when he was almost 4yo and he was overweight. During the past year he became very ill and was diagnosed with diabetes. He's since lost weight but must have insulin shots twice daily. I feel, had he been nurished properly before I acquired him, there's a possibility he may not have developed diabetes.
Take care of your puppy early on and you'll save trouble down the road. Good Luck.

I am using one of their formulas on my German shepherd who has cancer. We were already feeding him a natural diet (Natural Balance), but Solid Gold makes a high protein, low carb formula that sounded right for his problem. So far, so good. As you said, switch over very, very slowly. It's an excellent food.

Have never used it but have read that it was one of the top premium brands. I choose to switch my puppy to INNOVA EVO which he loves. Try Solid Gold and see if your dog enjoys it and how his stool looks/smells.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these:

Solid Gold
Wysong
INNOVA
Avoderm
Candidae
Merrick
