Well, New York is now going to be getting quite Christmassy in preparation for the festive season, so put on some of the Rat Pack Christmas songs to get into the spirit!

I suggest, "No Sleep Til Brooklyn" by the Beastie Boys! Or, most songs by Fountains of Wayne, since they drop many New York references in their music.

If you are here during the holidays, pick up a Frank Sinatra Christmas album. There is no better Christmas album, in my opinion, than one by Frank!

Another Christmas classic is by Run DMC, "Christmas in Hollis!"

i dunno if you like it but i would suggest Hip Hop music! listen to the latest tunes that have just come out. When i went to New York last year that's all they played on the radio well hip hop stations but it's huge over there. And you always hear it in shops as you walk on by or people playing it in their cars. Overall! NYC is great, you will have loads of fun over there! and if you going around this time of year then wrap up warm coz it's a lot colder over there then here! have fun.

I suggest George Gerswhin, especially "Rhapsody in Blue." Woody Allen used it in the opening scenes of "Manhattan."

A little Duke Ellington, as well. Listen to "Take the A Train."

Most early John Coltrane will put you in mind of dark, smoky late night jazz clubs in the Village.

That's a pretty good start.

I Love New York by Madonna (from the Confessions on a Dancefloor Album) - it's wicked!

Billy Joel springs to mind. New York State of Mind is an obvious one but a lot of his music has that same kind of feel to it.

Norah Jones too. But depends massively on your taste!

In my opinion :-)
