I was around that size when i was 18 maybe a bit bigger. Everyone body shape is different. If you're unhappy about your weight then do something about it, if not don't worry have fun and get on with life. Nowadays everyone is so obsessed skinny people, big people and its just a waste of time and emotion.
Do stop worrying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Size 16 is not enourmous is it. However I used to be a size 14/16 and I would do step aerobics, jogging, weight lifting and I was fit as a fiddle. Now I am size 8 but really unfit ( I had 2 children so no time to do those things) The thing was when I was younger I would always have large meals ie chinese takeaways before going to bed. Now I never eat after 6 O'Clock.
Don't worry about your size it's your personality that counts;)

I am an ex dance teacher, fitness instructor who now is an aquatic specialist. So the advise I am going to give you has some informative background behind it.
#1 DO NOT judge yourself by the media or others. I created a class for women called "overweight / out of shape". It was created to help women with self image problems realize that it didn't matter if you were a size 6 or 16 or even a 26 if you were in the best shape that you could physically be in at that moment.
#2 DO judge yourself by what kind of physical condition you are in. Can you do aerobic activitiy, such as BRISK walking for 20 minutes without getting winded? Are your muscles toned or flabby? Can you keep up with your peers? Do you participate in sports or some aerobic activity at least 3x a week?
#3 What do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you happy with what you see - not comparing yourself to others or the media's projection of underweight women?
#4 Do you eat a well-balanced diet high in fiber, low in fat, low in sodium and sugar and full of veggies and fruits? Do you snack a lot and have bad eating habits or are your eating habits sensible ones?
#5 What is your height and bone structure. THE BMI is not a good way to tell if you are wearing the right size. I wear a size 6, am solid and muscular, but according to the BMI I should weigh 45 pounds less! I'd weight 76 pounds and look ready to die!!! The BMI index does not take into account that muscle weighs more than fat. (remember that fat takes up more space)
So what is the answer? If you feel that you are fat - maybe what you need to do is get into some sort of fitness activity that you like and tone up. Your weight might not change, but I bet your clothes would fit looser and your size may go down. If you are not fond of exercise in general - try water aerobics if you have a pool available. Forget that it may be mostly older people - water is the up and coming fitness craze. Go out dancing with friends - dancing can burn a lot of calories. Get a bunch of friends together to power walk - lots more fun when you have a buddy to gossip with while walking...or listen to books on tape or music if power walking alone. Now is the time to get yourself set for life with good habits. Check into Weight Watchers - you can even do it online - to learn the healthy and easy way to eat properly.
Good luck! And stop worrying about the scale and what size you wear - concentrate on the questions I asked above. I know you can be whatever you want to be and you are beautiful at any size if you are physically strong and healthy!

Size has nothing to do with your age. If you are happy with yourself, you feel healthy and you are content, then there is no problem. But I think the very fact that you're asking this question means that the issue is on your mind - it shouldn't be. You could go to your doctor and ask him/her to give you a check-up and a clean bill of health, just to put your mind at rest, but in my experience (and I was once a size 24, so I know all about being overweight) only lose weight if YOU want to. If it's not an issue for your health and you are happy, then more power to you; don't be dictated to by the stupid societal demands that we all wear a size minus ten, or whatever it is this week. I'm now a size 14-ish and I feel great - it's womanliness that counts, and curves, and having a happy and fun personality. You're great just as you are.

Just over a year ago I set out on a path to lose weight. I have lost about 70 lbs and went beyond my goal. Believe it or not it became easier with time. I was actually told by my doctor at some point to take in more calories.
Something clicked and I became determined I had been overweight for over a decade and had tried every diet I could stand (even the cabbage soup diet...worst one ever).
To be healthy and lasting don't expect much aim for an average of around 1-2 pounds a week. You will probably lose more in the first couple...water weight.
I cut down on fat (using cooking sprays...butter spray...cabot 75% fat free cheddar cheese). I also cut back on carbs as much as possible and when I did have them stuck to a serving size.
For appetite control eat at least 3 meals a day and save some calories for a snack at night. It is all about calories intake and output. Eat foods higher in fiber then tend to fill you up. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water. A pain at first but you will acquire a taste for it and the trips to the bathroom will level off.
I ate anywhere from 900-1000 calories for the first 4 months and then up it to 1200 after that adding back in some fat as I had reached a plateau.
For exercise I walked everyday and then joined a gym. Walking is fine just be consistent and build up to longer and faster walking. I found I came to enjoy my workouts. I always felt better after them and enjoyed sweating.
Good Luck and hang in there...it can be done.

size 16 is considered overweight for agirl your age, however the average size in the uk is actually a size 16. At your age girls tend to put on a lot of weight in which eventually burns off. When i was 18 i was also a size 16, but now due to a good diet and exercise i am now a size 12.a
If you are happy with your size then don't worry im just vain ***** who has issues with being skinny. so do what you want to do and not worry about others

Hi there
first things first, I need to know your height to actaully know for your age are you overweight. Fat is not really a good word to use....everyone is fat....its only the degree....overweight is a better word to use. There are some pple who have more musclles and weigh more than that required for their height but that is normal. For that reason I find measuring your body fat a better indicator. For a women, a body fat of 15-20% is considered normal. Women after all have more fat than man to prepare for child birth.
You say that you can exercisse without feeling breathless....i say that it is a good sign.....but then again the extent of your excercise and the intensity is not stated so it is really difficult to tell. If you can basically run at about 3 Km at a pace where you can still carry on a conversation, I would say that it is a good sign. Carry on your excersice regime and you will see more results in the longer term.

size isnt the right way to judge whether you are over weight. Clothes sizes differ between retailers and can be inaccurate. Best way to understand your size a bit more is to weight yourself, find out if your frame is small. medium and large. Then work out your bmi ( body mass index) the ideal bmi is between 20 and 25. This should give you and idea whether you are the right size for your height.

if you're fit and happy then what's the problem?
people these days seem hung up on weight when what matters most is how you feel, size and body fat levels are a far better indicator of health than weight could ever be
I'm light as a feather but know I'm healthy and happy to boot
