Since you are a huge sports fan, I definitely recommend the behind the scenes tour of Madison Square Garden - they actually take you back into the players lockers rooms! It's really cool.

Another fun place for sports is Chelsea Piers. It is a huge sporting complex with ice hockey rink, basketball arena, bowling, batting cages, golf range, pools and gym.

You might also want to check out/eat at the ESPN Zone, which is right in Times Square.

I recommend the new Moby/Debbie Harry song "New York, New York" to get you in the mood!

I can't comment on where to stay, but I can give you other suggestions. Definitely hang out in Times Square; ESPN zone, MTV, Hard Rock Cafe. There are some good restaurants and lounges on Park Ave. There are a lot of good places to eat. Refer to the Zagat Survey for places that might appeal you. The village is good too! (by NYU). In terms of clubs, The Park and Webster Hall are great!! There are dinner/evening cruises that take off from the east side which would also be a good experience too.

i went in the summer time of last year and i stayed in a hotel called Kimberely suites. it was right across the street from Saks 5th Avenue. Tiffany & Co. and all the best stores are around there. it was failry decent price, don't remember the exact though. I visited a lot of small deli's in the area and they were wonderful. we went to a broadway play which was also amazing. My friend owns a private plane in Jersey so we flew around and saw things from above. O and at the hotel they have a dinner cruise you can go on and go by the statue of liberty and Ellis Island and such.

P.S. YOU WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!!

I was there in September. Don't stay at the Doubletree Metropolitian on Lexington Avenue. It's not worth the £200 / night I paid. There are loads of hotels to choose from, use this site.
Resturants are in abundance.
There is not much on for sport - Basketball.
You have all the shows etc to go to and shopping...

u can see the rangers at the garden (www.ticketmaster.com), the knicks in the garden, the islanders in Nassau colliesium, the devils, nets, jets or giants at the meadowlands in new jersey.

You could also see the thanksgiving parade on 11/23 and watch the balloons get inflated in the evening of 11/22 at w 72nd street. As for hotels you can stay at the Marriot on Broadway, Sheridan or the hilton on 42nd street . You can eat the ESPN zone on the corner of 42nd and broadway and watch your sport shows too

What time of year will you be visiting? It is helpful to know, especially for sports events. For best places to stay I would recommend mid-town, upper east side and Chelsea. What to do depends on what you are into. New york has so many attractions, museums, etc. If you want to see a specific broadway show I advise booking advance tickets however same-day discount tickets are available for many shows if you want to take your chances.
