1 surveillance camera for every 14 citizens. FACT. 66 million people in the UK. 4.7 million cameras. Orwellian prophecy becoming reality. It`s an obscenity.

Hi! Rachel, that's a good question, if you come from America you probably love Tony Blair but if you live in England most people don't. Some of us consider that he is the cause for the increased terrorist activity. Mainly because of his insistence to go into Iraq when he was given a clear ultimatum by the populace not to engage. Tony has made lots of unpopular laws and has formed a secret police which keeps an eye on our activities. New Labour was a means of getting the communist party into power. The old labour leaned to the left but never completely crossed the barrier, so, it is strange to see a Republican like Bush married to a communist like our Tony. Recently a devout christian picoted a homosexual rally and gave out some leaflets quoting the Bible's view on homosexuality the christian was immediately arrested taken to police station and interrogated for four to eight hours (the secret police actually implied the bibles words were offencive) before being bound over to attend court. Fortunately, the court threw the case out but this is not going to stop the secret police from acting for the government. Yes our freedoms are gradually winding down and under a Labour Kremlin style government is likely to do so every year they stay in power So yes we are being more closely watched than ever.

I'm not planning on breaking any laws, so why should I be worried about being watched. Its not like I'm being watched in the privacy of my own home which is the only place I'd do anything that I didn't want other people to see. CCTV and such devices are only used in areas where there is likely to be trouble (i.e town centres) and that they'd be useful in identifying and catching criminals.

I don't agree with speed cameras though because they don't stop dangerous drivers, just get safe drivers who have accidental slipped over the speed limit on a clear road at a time that it would be perfectly safe to go faster.

im not that paranoid, if they are watching me then they are leaving some other bugger alone.
dont believe everthing you read, we have a lot of cctv cameras but they are there to deter motorist from going faster than is allowed, the fines pay for the extra cameras you need to watch the police speeding.
there is a scheme in parliment at the moment to fit personal cctv cameras to criminals let out on bail ,as well as the electronic tag that fits around the ankle, they have to wear a type of helmet similar to the old scooter helmets, should be better than the reality tv shows we have on the box at the moment. Regards LF

Yes,the IP of a computer can be recorded even though there are software that claim to make it invisible and operate in stealth mode. The ISP's volunteer and encryption programs are not available to people like me.

Democrats and Republicans that have some positive stuff.

when the gov do something distasteful, its planned long before
and the t.v. companies make programs to aid the government in their brainwashing process, one such prog is called big brother where people are trapped in a house to live together. those who take part are the ultimat in brainwashed looneys, but this prog is a sign of what the gov will actualy do they will spy on every body because we have an extreemly sick gov. they are the ones who should be spied on so the people cansee what useless prats they realy are.

If you live in the United States, do YOU feel watched, Rachel?

The United States has cameras just about everywhere. The convenience stores, the interstates, schools, retail businesses (parking lot & inside,) malls (parking lot and inside,) buses (both school and public transportation), trains, and work places just to name a few.

UK just like the US is responsible to other countries as a superpower to act as policeman of the world. Thus, there are many countries that are envoious up to the extent of watching its citizens everytime for terroristic attacks.

I don't really feel watched, but I'm pissed off that we've reverted to covert, remote monitoring rather than having actual people to enforce laws who are on the ground in real time. CCTV cameras aren't nearly as effective as people at *preventing* crime, although they do have their uses in solving cases once a crime has occured.
