it's in the side of my ear. i've had it for about a month and i've been cleaning it with saline twice a day. it looks ok, but it's a bit scabby. someone has told me that when i clean it i should turn it, so the ring doesn't stick as it heals, but this means i have to break the scab. is this correct?

think you are supposed to turn them. try using surgical spirit to clean it.

Yes this is correct and you need to do it 3 times a day. The part that is scabbed up is the part that is till healing. Thats the reason its still scabbing. if you turn it while u put the saline solution it will allow some of the saline to get to what is scabbed and actually promote ventilation and healing. this should work. try it for a week. you should notice a difference. if within a week its worse than before then it was already to infected and the only thing you can do at that point is keep putting saline and turning.Or take them out. and dont forget to turn once or twice dry during the day without the saline. good luck

cleanse it with 1/2 water-1/2 hydrogen peroxide
apply a little neosporin or bacitracin to the site
after the initial piercing it is common practice to turn the ring to prevent the piercing from closing over the opening and growing over the ring site
after a month it should be healed
you may be wearing very inexpensive earrings- not good especially in a new piercing when the earrings are left in for prolonged periods
you may need to get earrings with hypoallergenic wires or posts
some people react to the metal in earrings
you may also have an infection and that is why after a month the site hasn't healed
ring earrings are better than post or stud earrings because they allow the air to circulate around the piercing
post or stud earrings can cause moist dark areas where bacteria thrive and cause infection

Get a glass of warm water and put half a teaspoon of sea salt in it and then soak it each day with a cotton wool ball. After a few minutes the debris will soften and you can then turn the piercing until any debris comes loose, then bathe it again to make sure its clean.

Put some salt in warm water & clean it with a cotton bud, turn it gently as you're cleaning it & it should be fine.

yes it is correct. a scab is healing skin, you dont want your healed skin to be attatched to your ear ring!?!
