You did not say what kind of a toddler he is. If he is usually a very energetic kid you might want to give him some drops called "Rescue Remedy ". These are made from flowers (Bach is the maker). They are totally safe for any age and calm you down (you or your baby or both :) Have you booked your seats already? Check with the travel agent if they gave you a first row seat where a crib can be attached to the wall or maybe put the
child to sleep on blankets on the floor. This is the only place in most planes where there is space enough for your legs and the baby.

I cant say much but you must be as calm as you can make your kid as the flight from Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane to LA takes 13 hours, To Tokyo takes 8 hours. From there you have a 2-3 hour flight after the stoppage in the states or anothere 8 hour flight from asia.

Take it easy for the 2 of you, the airline staff will look after you especily if you fly Qantas from Australia.

Enjoy, sorrry i could not be much of a help

Pack light!

Take some toys and things to do for both of you

Take something for him to drink or suck on when you take off and land because popping ears hurt!

Dress comfortable

And you can even talk to your doctor about how to give him a little extra medicine so he sleeps during a big portion of the trip :)

Make sure you have good seating on the plane (aisle and middle). Get motion sickness pills for your son.

Make sure you reserved a place to live and did currency exchange at the bank.

Since this is an English speaking country, you should be fine.

well lissa good luck dear.

bring a bottle so he has somthing to suck on
at take off and landing....this way the pressure change in the cabin will not effect him too much
and he will not cry and upset you and the other passengers.
