Rule number one is SCENE SAFTY. This means is the scene safe enough to go into. Ex = oncoming traffic, wires on the ground or low hanging, leaking fluids(gas, oil, antifreeze, anyunknown). Other precautions may be , is the car stable ? will it roll over ? In a nutshell the scene must be safe enough for you to enter. You are NOT going to be able to help the victom/Pt. if you get hurt or injured yourself. When this happens you become one of the pts.
I'm a EMT,and have been to way to many MVAs. We let the Rescue team extract the Pt,then we take over with the medical. If all is safe we will help the Pt while in the Vechile.
I hope this qnswers your question.
