If you have a regular vet, you can collect a urine sample & take it to them for it to be tested. Urine is usually dark if the animal is not drinking enough, so if his urine sample checks out fine, you need to enourage him to take in more fluids - for his kidneys (& longevity) benefit. Since he does not drink water much voluntarily, maybe mixing a watery gravy on his food once or twice a day would help.

Hi unfortunatly there are a number of problems it might be but all of them should be put to a professional vet.
No matter what the answer might be on these message boards will not alter the fact that maybe your dog needs to visit a vet or at the very least to call one & ask for some sort of advice...
The treatment for whatever is bothering your dog can not be obtained thru message boards & all heath related issues should be seen by a professional person with the means & the drugs to help your animal...
When dealing with these issues also you can never expect to be able to cut corners as these are all things that should be taken into considerasion when you get a pet & take it home...they can be a huge responsability...Regards Jake

Yes and no. Some people use water as a substitute for food. So in this way it is very unhealthy and will backfire. Eventually when you loose what you want you will gain it all back and then some. Mostly because you didn't change any bad eating habits. You just starved yourself. Now if you do that in a sense of more water and less sugary drinks than yes it's okay. It will probably help you loose weight. It's one step to eating healthier and eating better leads to a healthy weight.

What coloyour is dark? is it dark yellow, brown, bloody? is it only certain times of the day morning for example(as you might now with yourself that ur urine is darker in the morning from sleeping through the night) if it is just the fact that he isn't taking in enough water it might be a matter of monitoring his intake of water, because he maybe drinking more than you think. i would strongly recommend that he does take a trip to the vet as alot of problems can occur and it doesn't hurt to get a check up every now and then. if its money that your worried bout, taking your pet to local shelter vet clinics are substantially cheaper, but i think that he be checked over for your own peace of mind and the dogs health, many things go undetected.
hope that's helped

you cant do anything, he's passing blood in his urine so could have a bladder infection.
you MUST take him to the vet to get a proper investigation done and get the appropriate medication for him before it turns into something more serious if it hasn't already.
why would you get reluctant to take him to a vet??
i don't mean this to sound offencive, but you aren't exactly going to be a great help!
get him to a vet NOW and stop f+++++g about!!!

I think you need to know if there is a urine infection or something wrong. Is he on dried food? and does he unrinate a lot. If I were you i would take a sample of urine to the vet.

you might have to go and get him fixed because it sounds like he is marking his territory aka spraying. Call a vet and ask and if you have no had your dog altered yet then do so if you do not wish you get your dog altered or he is allready then ask the vet why he is doing this. It might be an infection.

i'm not sure if this will be any help but humans wee goes darker the more dehydrated you are, the darker it is the more you need water. i'm not sure if its the same with dogs but it would explain why is wee is like that, maybe you should try ways of making him drink more water
