I just switched to Innova Evo for my two kittens (6 and 5 months)...the oldest one is fine, however, the younger one has been having diarrhea. Will it go away? He doesn't seem to be eating different and he is just as active. Please help!

Hi there...was the switch to Innova suddenly? Most cats suffer from bowel distress when food isn't gradually changed over the course of several weeks. Any vet can confirm this fact. For more on this: http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/diarrhea .

For example to make the dietary changes you begin with 3/4 of the old food mixed with 1/4 of the new for one week...then the next week 1/2 to 1/2 then the following week 1/4 old to 3/4 new before switching completely over the final week.

Additionally, Innova also is quite rich and some cats have diarrhoea symptoms with it. It's such a high protein diet that diarrhoea lingers a little while longer than usual for some cats especially in kittens. However be patient as the symptoms should improve with a little more time.

You can offer a teaspoon of canned pumpkin (without spices) which can help firm up the loose stool symptoms: http://www.pets.ca/pettips/tips-75.htm Again any vet can confirm this fact as well.

I tried it also and half of my cats had diarrhea from it. I did the gradual switch, and it still happened. Too rich for many of them. Same thing happened with my dogs when I tried it. Half could not tolerate it. Both the cats and the dogs can however tolerate a half and half mix with another food that they are fine with.
