Is there anything I can do to relieve this, I have tried swallowing but that does not work.

Should I see my doctor.

There's a sinus cavity up there. While doctors generally don't recommend things like Afrin - there are instances where it can help. If you used one shot per nostril, it can reduce some pressure. If it continues to be a problem, you may need to check with an ENT.

Are you prone to sinus infections? Do you have a history of allergies? Sometimes getting allergy treatment is just enough to reduce swelling of the nasal passages and open the channels up to let air move around in the sinuses.

I've included a diagram of the sinus cavities.

As crazy as it seems, chewing gum and opening your mouth wide and giving a good hearty YAWN can help free the trapped pressure. Try it. If its severe, and this has no effect, see the dr. This also works well for many when you're travelling by car at high altitudes, such as in the mountains. The pressure can be positive or negative, btw, and, yes, its very unpleasant (been there!)

It could well be that the small tube that equalises pressure (the eustation tube) between outside and the middle ear is blocked. It may well be worth having a word with a doctor if you fly regularly. Otherwise take a decongestant over the counter med just before you fly, that should help.

it is due to the changing pressure building up behind the ear drum
when ever i fly on take off and landing this happens to me
and my ears get blocked for sometimes up to a week
they say swallowing
chewing gum
taking an antihistamine 45 min to landing also wearing ear plugs
none of which worded for me but you can try them
I FEEL YOUR PAIN some of us are just more prone to pressure changes

i used to get that then it kinda stopped for some reason. i found that holding something wet/cold to the temple helps. if the pain is really bad i would see the doctor.

Change in pressure in the sphenoidal sinus, possibly due to allergy.

air pockets in your sinus are getting smaller/bigger as the pressure changes. you must be a bit bunged up!
