She has had a relaxer for a couple of years. Now she is a teen, puberty has begun and her hair is breaking. Any suggestions to stop the breakage?

Your daughter's hair needs protein. Hair is composed of protein, as it is dead skin cells of the body. When overprocessed and due to chemical changes in the body, this is not an uncommon complaint. She needs protein back in that hair. Does your daughter wash daily? She shouldn't. Also, once a week, use a protein treatment. I recommend Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Reconstructor. This fills the hair with protein. Once the hair has enough protein, it starts to fill and smooth, allowing the cuticle (outermost layer of hair) to contract, and will decrease breakage. There is truly no reverting damage 100%, but there is preventing it, and mending it. My clients swear by this treatment. Also, remember... too much protein is bad. Some clients think... ok... protein.... load it on daily..... Well.... if used in excess it can overcoat the hair, weighing it and causing it to break.. so... deep condition 1-2 x a week. No more. You can use a Bag over her hair with the treatment too, for extra conditioning. This will allow her body's heat to further infuse the hair. Good Luck!!! Hope this helps

All chemical treatments (relaxers and coloring) should be done by a professional. Professionals can put relaxers in faster, thus reducing overprocessing.

Reduce the amount of heat she uses on her hair (from curling irons and blowdrying). Get her to get a doobie wrap when she goes to the salon. That style promotes healthy hair because it limits contact heat and it lasts for days. She should also get her hair trimmed at least every 6 weeks.

Make sure she wears a satin scarf on her hair when she sleeps.

For at home products, try the Olive Oil line.

Use some good quality tangle free spray or leave in conditioner to protect the hair, Brush it with a wide toothed comb and use simple 'join free' bands or scrunchies to minimise any damage. good luck

first of all get the dead ends cut off. then use deep conditioners to stop the breakage. when you get out of the shower never brush your hair because thats when it is softest. and use a wide tooth comb to brush her hair and take calciam pills. they make your skin, nails, and hair stronger
