Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves, as you have already observed.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It's just so easy to start thinking that just one won't hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don't have just one. Beware - alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here's a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It's not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as 'my body needs something', which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these 'my body needs something' sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the 'want something' feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we've had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.

After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.

First of all I applaud you for even trying to quit smoking. There just happens to be a new drug that's been on the market about 6-8 mts. You need a Dr. prescription for it but it does work. You have to be totally ready to stop. I have 4 different friend who have used it and have been successful. The drug is called "CHANTIX" and you can look it up. Sorry I didn't have a web site for you. My friends all said it worked. You set a target date and I know you take it the first week while you smoke. Then by the second week you just take the pill. I don't know where you live but it is available in the U.S. Good luck I hope you do it, I just Googled it to find out about it,lots of sites there......

I gave up 3 days ago, and i haven't cracked yet.

Try using nicotine gum, but only use the unflavoured ones, so it is unpleasant for you to take.

This will stop you from chewing too much and substituting it for smokes.

Overall the main key is willpower, if you don't have it, you'll never make it.

Willpower and a friend. Willpower to resist to get a smoke and a friend to smack you every time you can't resist and you try to smoke one. Nicotine gum may help but regular gum also. Pick just one brand a stay with it. Don't try the patches because my mom had some serious side effect. REALLY WEIRD DREAMS. I mean weird. So don't try the patch but don't go over to dope either. Just willpower and a friend.

That would simply be trading one habit for another. Have you tried hypnosis? It may seem a little expensive to visit a hypnotist/hypnotherapist until you consider how much you actually waste on tobbacco. With the current high and rising cost of smokes, that pays for itself rather quickly, plus you get great health dividends for yourself, your family, your friends, and anyone around you!

I'm afraid you are not able to do whatever. I recognise you quite desire to aid, however except she wishes to quit herself, then she'll simply bring on. Do you watch EastEnders? You recognise the man or woman Lauren branning with the consuming disorders? Well, every body's attempted to inform her to quit, however except she wishes to, she simply consists of on. I'm quite sorry for you, and your pal. I want you each well good fortune.
