It seems to need to be heavily tweaked to fit our times, certain bits ignored others glossed over so that it's quite arbitrary and all but useless as a moral guide for anyone, how do we know what's to be ignored and what's to be observed any more and why should we believe anyone who tells us which bits get the green light and which bits get the red.

Not realy, most of it is sensible, but a lot of it is pure hogwash and was even back then. The same with Sharia. One of the reasons for the spread of Sharia in the last half of the 20th century has been the fact that it is the only source of impartial laws available to the people of destabilised states. When Iran overthrew the puppet government of the Shah, which ruled by using the Savack's terror and torture, the only option they had for a court system or legal system was that of the Ayatollahs and Imams. That was the only way that they could have a legal system that applied to everybody with clear rules, nobody is above the law (except God/Allah) .

If we didn't have Bible based morality there would be good influence to offset the bad influence that we encounter everyday.
People need to know right from wrong.
If we didn't have these morals we would still be in the 13th century.
Do you teach your kids right from wrong?.......I mean..do they play violent video games that teach them to kill? do they watch R rated movie? Even TV these days has a ton of bad stuff, do you limit what they watch? The list goes on and on.
If you do monitor these things, you are the exception to the rule.
These things are what we need good influence to offset and it for sure the WORLD isn't going to offer the good influence.
Go to church, it'll do you some good.

Yes,the bible was Gods word to a certain people at a particular time. Harsh times & spiritually speaking very ignorant. most of the bible reflects the history of the jewish people. Jesus was a guru for the jewish people. All saints can help any one,but his primary focus was the jewish people. If you would like to know what jesus taught with out so much ambiguity, the bible had its roots in the rig vedas & hinduism. see these two sites, swami muktananda paramahamsa and www.stephen-kapp.com/articles_to_read.htm

there is only one answer that I can give you. If your actions are immoral, then the action is not between you and man, but between yourself and God. no one person with exception of Jesus Christ is without sin, therefore, continue the sin and forgiveness will never come. remove the sin and you are forgiven, as long as you do not return to the sin. OK. ask and ye shall receive. with many blessings by the way. good luck and keep your powder dry
