Depression is depression no matter what the cause of it. Have your thyroid checked. It's just a simple blood test.
Depression will not lead to schizophrenia. That would be like asking if bad eye sight will lead to a heart attack. One has nothing to do with the other.

Having an under active thyroid can cause symptoms that are similar to depression. That is why when a patient comes to a doctor with symptoms of depression, one of the blood tests the doctor will do is to check the thyroid.
If you have an under active thyroid and all of the symptoms go away after you start taking thyroid medicine, then you didn't have depression. You had the symptoms of an under active thyroid.
I don't know why you won't get the depression treated, if that is what is wrong. I hope you will reconsider. If the reason is money, there are sometimes community or charitible organizations where you can get counseling according to what you can pay.
There are some things you can do on your own that might help.
If you are young and in good health and you have depression, there are likely underlying causes. Often, we can have unrealistic expectations of life, of how other people should treat us, and of how we should treat them.
There are books that can help you look at this. 1 is, "If I Say No I Feel Guilty", I forget the author; another is "Feeling Good, the new mood therapy" By David Burns. If you are a Christian, you have to be aware that D. Burns is not one, so that some of what he says must be taken with a grain of salt. Otherwise, it is a good book.
Another underlying cause of depression, that is common, is that our life is miserable and we aren't doing what we need to to change the situation.
That might be; going to school to get a better paying job (or just a different job), ending a relationship with someone who is abusive to us, moving to another apartment, getting a better car, starting to live within our means, getting help with an addiction, or taking Assertiveness training.
This is not an exhaustive list, but something to give you an idea of the things to look for when you look at your life.
If you do not deal effectively with your depression, you will not become schizophrenic. That is a different illness. However, the symptoms of the depression may get worse.
I hope that something I said was helpful.

No, but you do risk becoming even more depressed if you have an untreated thyroid issue! See a doctor and get a simple blood test done, its not just depression you risk by leaving it untreated!

i have never heard that depression becomes schizophrenia. and yes, with lack of thyroid hormones u become sleepy and indifferent to life, which may look like depression. if u ever have blood test have it several times - just once may be inaccurate. if it is untreated -well, u will gain weight and become tired all the time and will sleep all the time. so life will pass by u. so i suggest u consider treating it

This question does not make sense. Depression is one of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. It counts as a symptom and it will go away when treated. Why would you not treat hypothyroidism?

depression is both a chemical disorder and psychological disorder...the best way to treat it is both medically and theraputically.
Scizophrania is a whole other class of psychological disorders.....no one is quite sure what causes it, but it is genetically linked. If someone has it in your family chances are greater that you might get it.
