Fortunately you only have highlights, and not a full head.
Now using shampoo's for specific colors wont work, as it doesn't color hair, only enhances color that already exist.
You're hairdresser should be able to tone it down, but if you want to do it yourself, do the following.
Find a semi permanent hair color (these are ammonia free, and wont damage hair more) Look for one that clearly says on the box; multi tonal, covers high and low light evenly. Many hair dyes colors all the hair the same color, so spend a lot of time looking. When you find one that says that it will leave it looking natural, buy one in you're natural color, but when using it, don't leave it for the 20 minutes the box recommends, but instead for 10-15 minutes.
The color will darken the highlights a bit, and because it's semi permanent, if it's to dark, it will fade lighter after a few washes.
Also get a extra strong conditioner or hot oil, because after all these treatments you're hair will need moisture!

If you use a blonde colourant but only leave it on 10-15 mins it should be okay, and it won't lighten the rest of your hair. I often find my highlights go brassy after the ash colourant starts to wash off-you just need to keep re-applying a semi-permanent or permanent ash shade. If the rest of your hair is darkish blonde, try Garnier Nutrisse in light ash blonde and follow the instructions as if you are re-touching. where it says apply to roots, only apply it to the darker areas first, then only colour the highlights last, or you'll cover them up. Go to a large branch of boots, and ask a member of staff, preferably one with blonde highlights-they'll be able to help you pick the right shade. good luck :)

First off becareful what you put on it! As some colours when used on bleached hair - go very patchy or worse still turn it green!
Go and get a semi or demi rather than a permanent dye which will affect the condition of your hair, one esp made for bleached hair (such as the born blonde range) and pick a dark golden blonde or dark beige blonde colour, wishing you luck :o)

i don't think of that is going to do a lot!! yet it really is because i do not position self assurance in those stupid products designed for brown, blonde, pink hair, and so on!! Hair is hair - it doesn't count number what shampoo/conditioner you make the most of quite, as long as cleans it!! in case you want to tone down the highlights in basic terms wash it more effective typically as this would in basic terms help the colour fade besides more effective right away!!

I know this sounds like a very strange tip but someone I used to work with did this to good effect:
Try washing it in head and shoulders.
If it doesn't work, at least your hair will be clean.
Remember that highlights always look brighter than they are when they're first done, especially if you're a red head like me and once they've faded a bit, you might like them better. That's what I found anyway!

u can put a toner on it to take down the tone, ask your hairdresser first. it will calm down in a few days anyway, newly coloured hair looks very bright and can be a bit of a shock, give it a few days and a few shampoos to see how it goes. if you think the colour is a little brassy, try washing it with a specialist shampoo that banishes that problem (most of them are purple in colour, dont be scared!!) best wishes x

Hi.
I have had this happen. It was a real disaster. I actually ended up dying my hair all over with a darker colour. You need to test it first to make sure it doesn´t turn your hair a nasty colour.
The other thing you can consider is to get some in'between low lights added. This would mean going back to the hairdresser.

How long has it been since you had your hair highlighted?
If it's only been done recently, give it chance to settle down, you might find the blonde isn't as bad as you thought.
If you still don't like it,try colouring it,but not reds,as it will turn out orange.

Firstly give it a week, the colour will really settle down in this time. If you still think it's too blonde go to the salon and get a few low lights put in. What ever you do don't try and dye it yourself or it will go ginger !!! xxx
