All your clothes should mix and match with the others. Take things you can layer. When you're traveling, most people won't know you're wearing the same things over and over. Wash things out at night as you go. If you do forget something, celebrate! It just gives you a good excuse to experience shopping in a new place. Here's why we think you should travel light: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/carry-on-packing-tips.html And we have a basic list we start with here: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/basic-packing-list.html This is what we use for short OR long trips.
Remember the limits on liquids in your carry-on bags. You can check the US Transportation Security Administration site http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/index.shtm. If you're traveling through the UK, they will start allowing similar amounts of liquids next week. Check British Airways site for latest news. http://baa.com/
Happy travels!

Make a list, this is step number one. Go through your apartment or house and checklist everything you think you might need on a trip. After that look carefully at the list you made. Lets say you put in "shirts". How many shrits would you need for a one week trip or a 1 month trip? Is it a business trip or a pleasure trip? I have such a list on my computer. Each time I travel I print it out. This enables me 1) not to forget anything 2) cross what I do not need when its a short trip and vice versa.

Oh, this is something I pretty much specialize in. Almost every trip I have packed for, I had no problems, or very little problems with everything I had brought.
Ok, first thing to consider... How many days are you going to be gone? For short trips that will involve NO going out, basically strictly business, follow these rules.
Underwear and socks to be able to change at least once a day, plus one extra set.
1 set of casual clothes, could be jeans and a tshirt, dockers, etc.
If your business trip calls for you to meet with professionals over the course of 2 to 3 days, I would bring 2 pairs of slacks, or 1 suit and 1 extra pair of slacks. Then bring 3 dress shirts. In such instances, you will want to pack 1 extra dress shirt incase of accidents.
Bring 1 pair of dress shoes and 1 pair of casual shoes.
As for clothes, that is all I would bring..... The thing to keep in mind is to pack what you will actually need.
Next, if you are a guy, invest in a shaving bag, a grooming kit. Fill er up with trial versions of the typical crap you have at home toothpaste, deodorant, cologne, shaving cream and of course pack a toothbrush and a razor. I also include as small a bottle I can find of any good smelling body wash and a small tube of hair product, gel, etc...
And that should be about all you should have in a checked bag.
If your trip invloves no business and is all pleasure, its ultra simple then. Bring enough shirts, underwear, socks, pants and 1 or 2 pairs of comfortable shoes to be able to change at least once a day, and then bring one extra set, just incase.
And then for a carry on bag, if I have to bring my laptop, I have that and some magazines, usually Time, FHM or Stuff and also if you want, bring an MP3 or CD player. And finally, I end up picking up some gummi peach rings or something light to snack on. But thats really about it.
Also, dont listen to anyone who tells you to bring all that you want to, etc... Pack it all up, bring the kitchen sink. Trust me, its a waste.

Don't listen to anyone that tells you to pack light.
Pack tons of stuff. You never know what you will need to wear. You just never know. I always ALWAYS pack way too much stuff. But, I am never at a loss as to what to wear. I always look good. Pack your things and let THEM pack light. Gives room for your suitcases!!!!

If you want to take a small bag with you, you should roll your clothes up, and put the small things like hairbrushes & stuff inside your clothes.
Make layers. Like, if you put shoes in you bag, you should put something that has the same size as your shoes, next to it, so you can put things on that, too.
