Change your beliefs first.
Remember the old saying:
your beliefs become your thoughts
your thoughts become your actions
your actions become your habits
and your habits become your fate
Believe that youre a good person ...but accept youve done some mistakes
Believe that you can get better by not repeating the same mistakes
Believe that you will become a better person by simply trying. You dont have to take down the mountains...or reach the skies to be a saint. Simply put an effort...and make sure your effort is sincere.
Youll be much happier. I promise.
'Happiness is not a state of being, its a state of becoming'

We all are creatures of habit. We begin to do things which are wrong. They feel good at the time. We then want to continue to do them. We need to change those action habits one at a time. The new habits we form will become habits, until we are happy with ourselves. We think we are strong, but we are weak. A simple example is smoking. Oh it won't hurt to try it. It would be easy to not do it again. The cigarette didn't taste well at all. It tasted awful. Even made us sick. It is very expensive also. There is nothing of redeeming value to it, but look at the millions that do it. Now does that make any sense. Look at millions who try and give it up. They have a real problem. The best thing in life is to never try anything you don't want to become a habit. It is likely it will become one and you will have a chore changing it. You can have the power to do it, but it will be difficult.

Resist sin, the bible teaches that if you resist the devil , he will flee from you. Pray, pray , pray. Meditate upon the word of God. That means to not only read the bible but meditate the scriptures. Put on a new man for Christ has cleansed the old man and you have become a new person is Christ Jesus.

Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior all your sins past, present and future are forgiven and God will not judge you for your sins because Jesus took the judgements for all your sins on the cross. More than that you are given by grace (by unmerited favor and you have not earned it) the righteousness of God in Him so that even when you sin you can still approach God and pray to Him. This is so because you whatever you do not invalidate the God's righteousness in Christ that you possess because you did not earn it in the first place. So you need not feel unclean when you sin but pick yourself up and pray in God's righteousness. Believe that God righteousness in you gives you the power to conquer sin and you will have the victory. For sin shall no power over you for you are under grace (Rom 6:14)

Whooops, I thought you were going to puke!
I don't know if you're going overboard about your being sinful and wrong after doing so much; but then, you are the best judge of it.
I'd just advise you to remember that it's human to err.
Don't flagellate yourself. That'll not cleanse you, but simply cause you hert.

That is a very good question. Prayer and meditation are necessary for purification. But you have to practice them under the guidance of a highly advanced teacher.
Please do not get discouraged.
