From what you say, it looks like you have already done a full reformat, without doing a backup first. In that case, I'm sorry but it looks like those files were therefore erased and so they are lost. BUT, I could be wrong (if you did some kind of backup), so call a specialist service and tell them exactly what you did and ask if there is any chance of recovery.

Probably not as you have overwritten the directory structure and much of the data with your new install.
All I can suggest is sending the drive away to a data recovery company to see if they can get anything back.
There is software you can install yourself to do this BUT it will obviously overwrite more of the stuff you want back
EDIT
To those saying a simple reformat destroys all the data .............
A home format DOES NOT.
Only a full security format, where every byte of the disc is overwritten several times, most do at least 7, will completely wipea disc.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but by reformatting your hard drive, you've shredded all files that were stored on it. Making the probability of actually recovering anything to about the odds of getting struck by lightning or willing the lottery.
Pretty much the reason why I say it's practically impossible to recover any data from a reformatted disk is that the current files on your hard drive has replaced parts, if not all, of the files that you probably wanted to save.
Chalk it up to experience & remember to periodically back-up your files next time.

i use a program called recovermyfiles but the more you are using the hard drive at moment then the less data you will be able to recover as it all gets moved to the end of the disk under a different file structure so windows does not detect it on your drive, but as you keep using the disk then it may well use some of this "now available space"to store the new stuff and then you are most certainly in the brown stuff!!!

It is possible but difficult.
There are firms that supply this service but it isn't cheap.
As above, always keep a backup.
