Myself, I liked learning about evolution, as it gave me a better understanding of what happened after the great flood. My parents studied the Bible with us and didn't oppose us learn about evolution. I wonder if they still do the fruit fly experiments in class.

One bad major flaw in your question my friend. I have never heard a "church" say anything.

Now, if you are referring to church "members", then I suggest you find out how public opinion and voters consist of. Believe this or not, but....atheists are NOT the only public. atheists are NOT the only voters.

I just seen this News flash on Fox News a couple days ago.

If the scientists have a say in teaching evolution then the church should have a say in teaching creationism. Evolution is against a christians beliefs so they do not want their children being taught that. So the schools should just teach both equally as an idea and not emphasize on one or the other to stay neutral.

If it is a private school associated with and run by a certain church, yes. They should be able to require any material they want. If we are talking about public schools, however, no.

However, I do believe that if a public school is teaching evolution they should be required to teach that there are other views out there. If evolution is 1 semester, take 1-2 weeks to talk about intelligent design, and other theories. All of these theories interpret the same facts to come up with different conclusions, and I believe that it should be taught that there are other theories that are not "anti-science."

The reason why they teach schools to do it is that the School learning is supposed to help them through the path. The Church however has provided a path and most of the Children follow it and, of course the Children go to School.

I have always been against the teachings of evolution in schools. If we want our children to know the Truth then the only way they will learn it is in the home and the family. ~Peace~

Dear Papa Bear,

i'm not sure if a church should have a say- but i think parents do have a say. Because evolution is not proven as fact it should be taught as theory and the flip-side to that theory is creationism, i don't particulary think that there is anything wrong with pushing an agenda to teach both.

People say well it's because religious people want to push their opinion upon "us"... but hasn't evolution been pushed upon "us" as well. Teaching creationism doesn't mean that kids have to conclude there is a God, but they are able to understand the basis of both beliefs and make an intelligent decision.

The church is not there to "govern people's lives". It is there to first and foremost bring glory to God, and to fulfill His Great Commission. This does include giving people directions from God's word as to how to conduct one's self- but ultimately the church ought not to have that kind of authority over people's lives. It is only Jesus who should!

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

Their own schools - yes.

Public schools - no.

Creationism is simply a lie, and it is morally wrong to teach it to children. Churches nonetheless have the right to commit this particular sin with the schools they run themselves, but no publicly-funded school should be required to lie to children like this just because some religion wants it to.

What right does the Church have to make that kind of demand? Since I don't want my children to learn that, and to grow up to be intelligent and educated, the church better stay away from my kids or there will be trouble.

How would these churches react if it was demanded that they teach biology, evolution and physics in addition to their bible stories in Sunday School, or lose their tax exempt status. Churches should pay taxes just like anybody else when they decide to become political institutions.

Are you church phobic?

In America parents should have a say in what is and what is not taught to their children. Unfortunately our education system is run by Stalinists (liberals).

I'm not aware of any "church" that sets public education policy.
