Poisoning Pigeons In The Park Lyrics
Artist(Band):Tom Lehrer

I'd like to take you now on wings of song, as it were, and try and help you forget perhaps for a while your drab, wretched lives. Here's a song all about spring-time in general, and in particular, about one of the many delightful pastimes the coming of spring affords us all.

Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
Life is skittles and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
I do, don't you? 'Course you do.
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes ev'ry Sunday a treat for me.

All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Ev'ry Sunday you'll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison the pigeons in the park.

When they see us coming, the birdies all try an' hide,
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide.
The sun's shining bright,
Ev'rything seems all right,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

Lalaalaalalaladoodiedieedoodoodoo

We've gained notoriety,
And caused much anxiety
In the Audubon Society
With our games.
They call it impiety,
And lack of propriety,
And quite a variety
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion
To want to dispose of a pigeon.

So if Sunday you're free,
Why don't you come with me,
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
And maybe we'll do
In a squirrel or two,
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

We'll murder them all amid laughter and merriment.
Except for the few we take home to experiment.
My pulse will be quickenin'
With each drop of strychnine
We feed to a pigeon.
It just takes a smidgin!
To poison a pigeon in the park.

No I don't hate pigeons, we have wood pigeons that come and feed in our garden and they're really cute. Whilst I don't have the urge to run pigeons over on my way to work, I have to concentrate hard not to swerve onto the pavement and take out a couple of the waste-of-space humans that there are though - ooh did I say that out loud!?

I can honestly say I hate pigeons with a passion, they are the rats of the sky. I just got back from Europe and they are filthing up every country. They ruined my visit to venice and in London they can't be removed because they are the 'Queens birds'.
The worst thing about them is their horrible deformed looking feet. I live in Australia and they are even here! They are not native they didn't fly here, some fool brought them over and released them. The Australian ones are the worst, always staring at you with their horrible beedy black eyes, standing on your feet while you are trying to have an outdoor cup of coffee, making hideous scratching sounds with their claws.
Honestly, I can truly say pigeons are the only thing i hate in this world. They have made me cry on more than one occasion.

They also stink like mangy manky feathers

Hi well it might be interesing for some people to know that in both world war 1 & 2 that messenger pigeons save many lives & have animal awards for that merit so maybe they have their uses at times...but I'm bias as I have kept a number of them in the past & I like pigeons...Regards Jake

No. Incontinence is probably the only thing I don't like about them. They're quieter than most birds and if you get them young, they make decent pets.

We use them to train peregrine falcons: They're absolutely awesome in flight, very manuverable and can easily outfly a peregrine.

A few wars would've gone very differently if the wasn't for those creatures.

Set up an alternate perch for them and put vertical pointing wire where you don't want them: Or the outline of a hawk in flight, though that's temporary, they eventually realize its not a threat.

No. I can't imagine hating something because it does what comes naturally and I always try to remember that it was humans that encroached on the habitat of animals.

There are more grievous injuries in life than a bird pooping on my car. Sadly, humans that should know better perpetrate most of those injuries.

On the contrary I love pigeons. They are a part of nature's beauty. We eat them where I live. But I would rather watch them alive.

I like them.....it sucks that people have taken over so much space that these birds now have to make their homes absolutely anywhere possible. I know people get annoyed with them but overpopulation of species happen because of our own overpopulation of humans.
