I was on a cruise and I visited Atlantis. It was a dream, there are so many things to do and see that it seemed like it is worth every penny. The casino was huge and the aquariums amazing, but you can visit them without staying there, the pool area was like a big garden (huge) with lots of water slides and swimming pools next to the beach. I was able to get in there and get to the beach next to the hotel. Go to tripadvisor.com it has been very helpful for me and my travels. You will find reviews and traveler photos:

We visited the Atlantis two months ago, but stayed in another hotel nearby. You can enjoy the casino and restaurants and tour "the Dig" which is a fascinating experience seeing the giant aquariums. You don't have to stay at Atlantis for those activities.
But if you want to take the Lazy River Ride or use the waterslides, then you have to either be a guest at the Atlantis or stay nearby at a hotel that offers Atlantis guest passes.
The Comfort Suites Hotel next door offers the privileges of the Atlantis with a moderate room price.
Next spring the Atlantis will open the dolphin sanctuary which is the new Caribbean home for the dolphins relocated after Katrina.
