I gave up caffeine about 18 months ago and started drinking the decaffinated versions of tea and coffee. I had terrible headaches and was quite irritable for the first 3 days, but since then I've been fine. I sleep much better at night now, but don't feel tired during the day. You can also buy a product called dandelion coffee from health food shops. It doesn't really taste like coffee - it is an acquired taste - but once I got used to it I find that's OK and sometimes have that for a change.

Well I'd say don't try to find a substitute! If, like me, you drink a lot of coffee, then in fact the caffeine doesn't have the same impact as it does on a person who only occasionally drinks it. Blood pressure, for example, is sent way up in the occasional coffee drinker, but is unaffected in the coffee 'regular'. I checked this out with my doctor because I love coffee but have blood pressure issues.
Whatever you do, don't opt for decaffeinated muck! Never mind what they say about only taking the coffee out with just water, it is all lies! To test this is simple: add cream (not milk) to a cup of decaffeinated coffee. It will curdle because of the acid that is used to get rid of the caffeine. Ask yourself if this is what you want to drink...

Wean yourself off slowly. If you like the taste but not the caffiene, try the decaff versions of tea and coffee. If you are not too bothered that it's tea/coffee, just that it's hot and wet (aren't we all!) then herbal teas or green tea is a good alternative.
If you gradually reduce the amount you drink, it won't be as much of a shock to the system.

I made fresh ginger tea to replace the above. It can be made by grating fresh ginger in hot water after a short while drain the grated ginger through a coffee filter or some thing similar Microwave for a minute if too cool. Enjoy!!!!!!

You can start with a black tea and move your way down. If you prefer not to drink tea you can always find some ginseng from a store that specializes in herbs. It is a good energy supplement and is entirely natural but also has sexual side effects of increased stamina and sexual energy (such a bad thing I know).
