There is no such thing as "spot reducing" only one area of your body. You cannot target your abs to lose fat from. It will come off from everywhere. Because of the size of your ab area, it is generally the last place you see the fat come off from. But, if you are eating properly and exercising, it is coming off.

What you eat is also a key component to loose the fat. Eat healthy, but eat less. Try for 5 to 6 smaller meals during the day, making most of your calories come from proteins and good carbs. Cut back on refined sugars and fatty foods (especially trans-fats). If you are not gaining weight right now, try cutting back about 200 calories and see what happens.

Whether you need to lose some body fat, or to increase muscle tone, the only exercises that will be effective in 'reducing' your belly are those that involve a twisting action for your torso (ribs one way, hips the other).

(Twisting your waist uses the 'Abdominal Obliques'; these are the middle two layers of ab muscles, and they form a letter X shape across your midriff. Because of their 'crossover' shape, tightening them will 'pinch in' your waist in a way that the 'six-pack' muscle (Rectus Ab) can't. The fourth layer (Transversus Ab) is not involved in movements, so it will only tighten as your posture changes.)

Some gyms have a machine specifically for producing this 'hourglass' effect. It's a turntable you stand on, and move your legs & hips from side to side, while keeping your ribs and arms still by holding a handle in front of you. They aren't very popular, because people are much more keen to get a six-pack.

You can also get a turntable to use at home, but usually without the handle to hold. DON'T DO TOO MUCH TOO SOON, or you may hurt your back.

(You should also see your doctor before you start any new exercises, to check if you have a back problem you don't know about yet. Some back problems can CAUSE a bulgey belly.)

Belly-Dancing and Salsa dancing are very good for activating these muscles, too. And more fun than either kind of machine.

Exercise alone doesn't do it, mate, you have to look at what you're eating also. It may be that you are eating something that's causing your intestines to bloat, and a prime culprit is wheat, and it's in all kinds of processed foods as well as bread and pasta. Meat can also cause blockages, especially if you eat a lot of it ... and it's processed.

You can make a difference in a week. Reduce processed foods as much as you can (including breakfast cereal, a good one is porridge or oatmeal), eat lots of vegetables in as raw a state as possible (no processed sauces like mayonnaise unless you make it yourself, just use oil and vinegar and some herbs/spices of your choice) and - this is the key - cut OUT the nasty sweet carbonated drinks, even the so-called sugar-free jobs and drink water and fresh juices instead. Eat lots of fruit too, and you might find nuts helpful too - but make sure you're not allergic to them.

Finally, be realistic about the timeframe. If you eat healthy for just one week, you will only benefit for that week. If you decide to change your eating patterns for good, then you will look and feel much better for a lot longer.

Oh, and continue the exercises. They'll help you see the benefit of eating well very quickly indeed.

First of all don't worry about tummy exercise, you need cardiovascular exercise every day and cut down on calories. Don't worry about how much you eat, just eat when you are hungry and eat mainly fruit and veg. Just a little protein and a little carbs. Do an exercise you enjoy for half hour every day, like fast walking. It will work if you are committed.

When you have lost weight you can do tummy exercises. Can you go to a gym for this?
