I don't see why not. If you shared a meaningful connection and you enjoy her personally, 7 1/2 hrs is fine :). I'm not sure the kind of relationship you and this woman share(d), but if you feel your decision will be appreciated then go for it. Try and use the visit as a means of exploring other forms of entertainment within the area. This way your trip can be worthwhile even if it doesn't turn out as you envisioned.

If you find traveling for that period a bit difficult strike a compromise by agreeing to meeting each other at a 'middle' destination in order to cut down on driving time.

Good luck!

First find out if she's still single. Find out what she's doing now. If she's still where you were when you were in the same place, a good idea would be to ask around about her. Talk to people who you both knew back then. Get her phone number and call her if she's still single. You never know, a lot of things may have changed since then.

I am a hopeless romantic and I know how sweet it can be if someone whom I like or even love from a decade ago would fly to see me. However, we need a reality check here. Before you do, you need to check your reasons for doing so, as well as whether the other person wants to see you as well. You cannot just show up in front of her doorstep unannounced. That could turn out to be disastrous if you weren't even prepared at all.
