Please give me one logical reason, not media hyped, for why you think "Pit Bulls" should be banned.
Especially when many humane societies recommend "pit bull" type dogs as family pets because of their stable temperament, high pain tolerance, and desire to please people.
And I don't want none of that "I know someone that was attacked" BS. I want logic. Not Hype. Or a solitary personal situation. I talking as the breed as a whole, not an individual dog.

TD ~ You will never hear about Poodle mauling. Seriously would you report an attack from a poodle? That’s like calling the cops for a Chihuahua attack. You would be laughed at. And only 27% of reported attacks were from a “pit bull“ type breed. They are animal agressisive by nature, not human aggressive. Research it.
And Elana read my question before even attempting to answer. I was not asking why people don’t like/hate Pit Bulls, I was asking why they think they should be banned, LOGICALLY. I know people are going to say what they want about any breed.
I want to know if people can think for themselves or if they really do believe everything the media has to say.

Pit Bull haters can't give a logical reason as to why Pitties should be banned. The reason for this is all they know is the media hype and nothing else. This is all they want to believe. I experience this it least once to twice a week walking my Pitties out and about from ignorant people who know nothing of the breed except for what they see and hear. They choose not to become educated about the breed. Instead t.hey would rather believe what they see and hear with the media.

Unfortunately, people are swayed by the media.
I am a pit bull lover and owner, and have been in contact with many pit bulls over the years, and have never had a single bad experience with any of them.
I know several people who were attacked by dogs other than pit bulls. I was bit by a scottish terrier. My dad was bit and almost killed by a mix. My mom had a german shepherd as a kid that killed a lady after it had bit the hell out of my uncle.
Sadly, a lot of media stories that blame "pitbulls" for bites/attacks are misinformed themselves, as many people don't recognize dog breeds, and just blame/call any dog that bites or is aggressive a pitbull.
I can give you a logical reason why pit bulls should NOT be banned: Once the pit bull breeds are banned, another large powerful breed will be targeted. Rottweilers and shepherds, and eventually it will go down the list and take away the retrivers, spaniels, and we'll be left with no dogs.

You know, when I was growing up...the breed to be "banned" was a Doberman. I grew up with Dobbies and even had 3 save my life when I was 4 years old. To this day, I love them.
Every generation has a dog breed which is mis-bred, mis-raised, mis-treated to the point where the breed becomes dangerous on a whole. I have met wonderful pit bulls...and I have met ones that I wouldn't trust unless caged and muzzled. The sad thing is, Pits have been being bred and raised as fighting dogs...whether for other dogs or people....and they have the strength to do massive damage when they do turn. Until this irresponsible breeding/upbringing stops, the dog breed as a whole will be a menace to society.
People have no clue what they're doing when they "brainwash" (read raise them to be fighters or just plain mean) these dogs....or tie them up in the backyard. Also, any dog that has been "exiled" to the yard where they have little to no contact with people or other dogs makes them crazy, literally. Dogs are pack animals and being alone has serious consequences. They become territorial...mean...crazy...lonely... etc....
As for never hearing of Poodles killing people....that's why they're called Ankle-Biters. Most smaller dogs are very inbred and turn often. They just don't do the damage of the bigger breeds.
It's not pit bulls that I'd like to see banned really...it's irresponsible pet owners....no matter what animal/breed they have.

From reputable breeders I think pit bulls are decent dogs however more often than not many back woods breeders and some even in and around cities are breeding pit bulls as fighters. It's all about the money. There is also problem with over breeding and with each successive batch of puppies their dispositions are worse. Reputable breeders don't have the same ***** birthing more than once a year, any more than that and the quality of the puppies degrade. Find a reputable breeder and you will get a good dog.

I am not one of those Pit Bull haters but I do have to say this:
Why don't you just IGNORE the people that make stupid comments like "OMG pit bulls are terrible dogs, don't buy one, they are bad and will attack" etc.
I do not LOVE Pit Bulls but I do not HATE them either.
Don't ask questions like 'Why DON'T you like them?" because all you will get are Pit haters with nothing else better to do than diss a great dog.
The reason Pit's have such a bad name now is because backyard breeders are breeding them for nothing but money and the temperament of these pups are terrible. As time goes on, more Pits are bred for money and the breed becomes vicious and aggressive towards people. That's the only reason. If Pits were bred my professional hobby breeders, the breed would be just as great as any other breed of dog.
Additional: THE ONLY REASON YOU SEE KIDS BEING 'MAULED' TO DEATH BY A PIT IS BECAUSE OF BACKYARD BREEDERS! NO SERIOUS HOBBY BREEDER WILL BREED A DOG WITH BAD TEMPERAMENT. THEY HAVE BAD TEMPERAMENTS BECAUSE THEY WERE BRED FROM POOR BLOOD LINES, WITH NO CARE AT ALL.
PARENTS WITH BAD TEMPERAMENTS = PUPPIES WITH BAD TEMPERAMENTS!!!!!
Additional: Also, before even responding to my comment on people who think they should ban Pits, check my name first love. It's Elena. Not Elana.
Stop trying to make a stir over why people should ban Pits. Get over the fact that so many people hate them.

I have NEVER seen a shelter recommend a bit bull as a family pet !! Especially a shelter because they do not know what kind of background they've had . I know that in some counties pit bulls are illegal like Dade county Florida and in some of the inner cities it is a against the law for anyone under 18 to have one in their possession . I do believe a pit can be a good dog but the shelter thing gets me !!
On the other hand though I believe that its all how you raise any dog as to how it will act and the background of the pet as well .

I have a Pit Bull, and he's the sweetest dog you will ever meet, it's all about how you raise them. You can teach any dog to be aggressive. Ban the owner not the breed.

Okay, answer this then....why is it that when a small child is mauled to death by a dog, 9 times out of 10, it's by a pit bull? I've never heard of a child getting mauled to death by a poodle. When you see the owners on the news, what do they always say??? "S/he'e the sweetest dog. S/he's never bitten anyone before." Blah blah blah. I'm sure you'll turn that into your so called "media hype," but it's true. They are an aggressive breed of dogs by nature. Here, we have a dog park where you can take dogs to run off leashes and they finally had to ban pit bulls in it because they were always attacking other people and their dogs. It's not just all coincidence or some big conspiracy.

I love all doggies -pit bulls included. But you gotta except they aren't the friendliest of dogs. I wouldn't go as far as banning the breed-everything has a purpose. I won't give any reason as to why they should be banned-but they are definateky not family pets. Of course, there may be a few exceptions to friendlier pit bulls, but as you say, on the whole, they aren't for faint hearted.

I had two that never bit or menaced anybody, but
they killed the old woman next door scotty dog.
They have been bred to kill other dogs for so long you can't stop them, some attack people.
I am not saying it is only pit bulls, rottweilers are can be very dangerous too. These dogs are not well suited to city environments, people with 5 acres or more have better luck with them.
They don't belong in town.
