I think that bikes are a pretty fast mode of transport, but it depends on how far you are going and how good of a biker you are!

Lots of people here in the city ride bikes, but in midtown you mostly only see messengers and they are very fast and very aggressive with traffic. If you go outside of midtown, you will see a much slower pace, and families riding together, etc.

If you aren't used to riding in such a dense city, with so much traffic, I would stick to the subway, which is definitely the fastest way to get around.

Cabs are only faster if you are riding in the non-rush hour times.

Better to take the subway. Express trains are pretty fast on weekdays, but can be slow during rush hour and weekends. A cab can be fast (sometimes) but expensive. Moreso, a bike will get you killed. There are too many cars and a lot of people get killed by some of the maniacs behind the wheel.

If you're only in the city a short time, I find cabs are the way to go, certainly the safest anyhow.
Leave the bikes for the couriers. They're homicidal.

the respond incredibly relies upon on a great sort of components (e.g. bike sort, terrain, rider wellness, & velocity determination, etc.). I used to experience my 10 velocity street bike in my community over a three.3 mile course & the final i ought to do replaced into ~22 mph (while i replaced into plenty youthful & in very athletic situation). i might guess an known rider who rides for known workout might in all probability experience at approximately 0.5 that velocity (~11 mph) on an identical sort of bike. motorcycles which at the instant are not designed for velocity might likely known a particularly decrease velocity. hth!
