i strongly disagree with what the other guy said. Yes he is correct in his statement that cars normally put on 12000 mile per year. Now if you were to live in rural america like I do this is almost impossible. To put this into perspective, I drive 40000 miles a year and that is mainly to work and back. A car with this kind of mileage would be right what is the norm where I live. There is a huge diffenece between hi-way miles and city miles. If the car in question had 114000 city miles, it is more than likely worn out. It is was mostly hiway miles, then that baby still has a lot of life left in her. A Taurus with 114000 on it, and being a 1999 model year i wouldn't buy it for more than 4600. And as far as reliabilty goes they are quite reliable. And not to scare you but the only thing that may go wrong would be the transmission. The Tranny always seems to go before anything else on these cars

I would be wary of any Ford with high mileage. Even if the car has been well cared for and maintained, its systems are likely to start breaking down around the 100,000 mile point. Transmissions are a particular problem area and are expensive to replace for front wheel drive models like the Taurus.
A much better bet for you would be to go with a Japanese nameplate with a superb reputation for reliability, such as a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. Both are roomy sedans in the same class as the Taurus and can easily go for 200,000 miles with proper care. If you don't mind a slighly smaller car you may also want to look at the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. The Toyota or Honda will cost a bit more than the Ford upfront, due to their superior reputation and desirability, but you should make up that difference over time due to lower repair costs. However, with any used car, you should make sure that all recommended maintenance on the car has been performed (including timing belt replacement, typically due around 60,000 miles) and have a reliable mechanic go over the car before you make a commitment.

My grandpa's 1990 taurus has 226,000 miles on it and it's still going but that many miles on a 1999 ford taurus can't be good. Fords are great vehicles but they can only be pushed so far. If you maintain it properly I would say it would last for another 100-200,000 miles.

I drive a 2002 ford tuarus with 125 k for a company car and i drive the crap out of it. If u maintain and take care of any car it will take care of you. Sure some cars are better than other. As for the 99 ford yur looking at i would look for a japanesse car thats clean in and out just because they are a better car all around. U dont know the history with any car so i would lean towards a jap car just becuase of thier rep. and they are fairly inexpensive to fix versus a american car. I believe in buying jap. cars and american trucks.

A high miler ford...not s good idea.I'd rather buy a honda with that kind of milage. No,a ford taurus is not a reliable car.You want reliable???Buy certified used or from someone you know who does regular maintenance. That's a whole lot of miles and you might end up spending more to get it fixed or smogged.I bet that thing won't even pass smog.If you really want that car, check for leaks underneath such as oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and brake fluid.DON'T BUY A HIGH MILER...ESPECIALLY A FORD.

Look at the interior of the car and see if its still like new.
Cars that are taken care of can go to 300,000 miles.
People still think of a car like 40 years ago, when you get to 80,000 it finish, but today its different.
