1 Corinthians 10:24 "Let no one seek his own good but that of his neighbor".

My point is....would it matter what religion or faith a person had...or does that verse imply the morality and ethics that we all have within us anyways?

Dear bluebootz,

i think we need to do both. i think it's important to understand what you believe- and i believe most people share what they believe with others not to impose their own beliefs on others, but because of errors they see in another's belief. i think that there is a loving way to communicate errors in another's belief system (for example when i was in Thailand there was a temple where people were bowing down to Monkeys offering them money and stuff like that...) yes people have that freedom to do that... but seeing that was rather painful to my heart.

So i think part of communicating lovingly with another is also trying to understand what they belief and the basis of that belief.

In terms of the Bible verse you quoted- the Corinthian church had forgotten how to love one another and there was much immorality in the church- so the Apostle Paul reminded them of the attitude they were to have as followers of Christ. They were to love others before themselves, and not just think of themselves... think of how much better the world might be if people adopted that attitude... The verse refers to an attitude that someone who follows Jesus should have... not just being self-centered... but being God and other people centered... It's not making a statement about our internal morality...

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

P.S.: Feel free to email me: nicksterlee@yahoo.com if you need any more clarification on the verse.

Yes it matters what you believe as far as salvation is concerned perhaps I'm not understanding your question as this verse does not seem to apply to faith. The good of your neighbor in the spiritual sense would be his salvation. This verse definitely does not in any way imply that morality and etthics are within us..not sure where you are getting that.

All of us—“stumble many cases” with the aid of fact of imperfection. Stumbling in be conscious is between the main regularly occurring and doubtlessly detrimental shortcomings. James says: “If all and sundry does not stumble in be conscious, this one is a proper guy, waiting to bridle additionally his total physique.” in assessment to Jesus Christ, we don't have proper tongue administration. If we did, shall we administration the different individuals of our physique. in spite of everything, bridles and bits make horses bypass the place we direct, and via potential of a small rudder, even a great boat pushed via complicated winds would properly be reported with the aid of fact the helmsman needs. everyone would desire to easily admit that actual attempt is had to administration the tongue. Actually it does matter what each of us believes...for example what would you do if someone "believed" that if they stood in the middle of the freeway that they would not get hurt,..and to prove their point, they took their whole family to the middle of said freeway..would you at least TRY & convince them of the dangers? Wouldn't you in "good conscience" do your best to get then to understand the facts of bodies (weighing tons) in motion coming in contact with the human body is going to result in their imminent demise? Would you not be seeking their good? Religions & faiths are just a method of belief...but a relationship with the God that created the Universe is a whole nother issue!
He has given us every possible way to help us to discover the truth..we have but to LOOK!

I think we should do both. We are going to be living around all kinds of people for the rest of our lives, and we should make an effort to understand those around us, but of course our personal integrity would require that we also defend what we believe. Have a happy day.
