G'day Christine,
Thank you for your question.
Australia is blessed with a wide range of popular beaches with one of the longest coastlines in the world. There are also great beaches where very few people go because it is so remote.
Sydney has many great beaches. Bondi and Manly are probably the most famous but there are at least a dozen more great beaches in the city. There are also great beaches throughout the state. Mollymook Beach on the South Coast is a place where I hope to be spending most of my holidays.
Victoria has some great beaches. St Kilda Beach is the pick in Melbourne and Portsea is a well-known beach. Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt died there in 1967.
Queensland has some great beaches especially on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Surfers Paradise attracts tourists from around the world. Noosa has some great beaches further north. Brisbane also has good beaches. Further north, it is unsafe to swim in the ocean due to poisonous jellyfish.
Western Australia has some great beaches. Perth has some good beaches such as Scarborough. In the tropics, Broome has Cable Beach which is Australia's best tropical beach.
South Australia has some wonderful beaches. Adelaide has 60km of sandy beaches. Glenelg beach is the best known and is a great place to spend the evening at one of the pubs or restaurants.
Tasmania is a bit too far south to have a beach culture although there are some pretty beaches. The water is too chilly for much of the year. The Northern Territory has some great beaches but I wouldn't swim there due to poisonous box jellyfish as well as the odd saltwater croc.
The ACT where I live is inland but only a couple of hours from the NSW south coast where much of its population spends January.
It may seem that I am going on a bit but I am merely scratching the surface. There are many excellent beaches that I haven't mentioned.
The best part is that summer is almost here. Paradise is summer on a good Australian beach. There is no better place to be.
Regards

Any beach in Queensland is better than Bondi and Whitehaven in the Whitsundays is world rated Number 1 thank you. Gold Coast also rated highly.

If you're on the west coast near Perth, go to Cottesloe Beach..I've been to bondi which is just a touristy place, but if you want real white sand and not sand dumped by bulldozers every morning, you're best to go elsewhere.

There are so many great beaches it would be impossible to choose. Wine glass bay in Tasmania is one of my favourites.
