Don't try to forget him. ..as long as he is remembered, he still lives in your heart...Just try to focus on the wonderful times, that were so special to both of you, and cherish his memory forever..the pain will lesson with each passing day, but the memory of his devotion and love should stay with you forever..

Many people find that the pain of losing a beloved pet is every bit as intense as the grief they feel at the passing of an actual person who is close to them. On the other hand, the intense feelings over the loss of a pet do fade a little more quickly than those over the loss of a fellow human.
Don't try to forget. Allow yourself time to grieve. You may find it therapeutic to write down what you loved about your dog, the things about him that made you laugh, or the first time you saw him. You may cry hard, but it will be crying you need to do.
In the past I have found that I got a new pet too quickly after the death of the previous one, which wasn't good for the relationship between me and the new pet. A couple of months may be OK if it feels right to you.

A year after my favorite cat died, my grandma and I went out to eat at Red Lobster to memorialize Stanze's life. My theory is the cats like seafood, so Stanze would have been pleased to be memorialized in such a way. I planned to make a beautiful flower garden in her honor, but I got sick two years ago and haven't been well enough to DO anything on the project. I will eventually get her named tattooed on my back. She was my musical muse. I wrote several songs about her before she died...so she will never die as long as I can sing. You may think I went overboard, but she was VERY SPECIAL. She was the softest cat I ever petted and had the loudest purr on the planet! I miss her after 2 and 1/2 years. But I'm okay! I even started a group on Flickr.com to celebrate green eyed cats.

I'm sorry for your loss. You have to go through the grieving process- you loved your dog. You don't want to forget him. It's just like when a person dies- the pain will ease after time.

My dog died over one year ago. I miss her terribly. She was one of my best friends. It's OK to miss your dog, I don't have any suggestions as to forgetting your dog because I don't ever intend to forget mine.

I know of your pain and my heart goes out to you.
A new dog helps however there is no remedy.
I lost one of my girls four years ago and I still grieve for her.
I hope you are reunited with your friend in another life, my deepest sympathy for your loss.

Time is the only cure. You will never forget the dog, but the pain will lessen with time. I am sorry for your loss.

Well, I don't think you should try to forget your dog. Grief is supposed to hurt.
After a while the grief will fade. Then you might think about getting another dog, but don't rush into it.

You don't forget. Pull out some photos, prints, slides or whatever you have, stick them on your fridge or frame them and put them on your desk. Say their name everyday and honor them for their servitude and unconditional love. They were not meant to be forgotten but meant to be praised. My three boys sit in ash on my desk and I thank them everyday for loving me, the one that's with me now,I do the same. He'd give his life to protectme and my family, would you do the same?
