If it were due to hairballs, then yes, there would be evidence of hair. I have a cat that throws-up about every other week. I think that she just eats too much, too fast and then drinks a bunch of water and next thing you know, I'm cleaning up the carpet and my foot. I worried about her drink a lot of water and diabetes. My vet said not to worry about the vomiting, and that a sure sign of diabetes is the cat would be losing a lot of weight while still eating the same amount of food. Some cats just vomit more than others. Try different types of food. I am having luck with Science Diet. It is expensive, but my cats are very soft, losing less hair and throwing up less. Good Luck!!

Yeah, you would see hair, but sometimes it takes a few vomiting sessions for it to come up, so you may see a few meals before the hair makes an appearance. There are hair ball remedies you can get at pet stores, or let the cat eat some butter once a week. That's what I did and only saw hairballs when the cat was too old to steal her own butter off the counters.
Never feed Purina, Iams or Science Diet. It's poison. Read "Foods Pets Die For" by Ann N. Martin for all the gory details.

Yes, if your cat's vomitting is due to hairballs, you'd see the hair in the vomit.
However, if your cat only vomits liquid and does it after every meal, take it into the vet ASAP.
I had a short-haired cat that started throwing up about 3-4 hrs. after every meal. Of course, I was alarmed, because she hadn't ever had problems with hairballs before. So, I took her into the vet and he kept insisting it was hairballs. To make a long story short....the vet was wrong, ended up doing blood tests and x-rays on her and found out she had cancer. I ended up putting her down instead of making her deal with chemo 2-3 times a week.
Also, if it's just hairballs, behavior-wise...your cat would probably be its usual self. Looking back on my own experience with my poor kitty...she wasn't feeling good. She finally got to the point to where she was eating less and less...her last day, she wouldn't eat anything.

Dear kmennie****
the hairballs are not round like balls, but look like little sausages full of hair. If you squeeze it, only clear spit will come out. It is a solid sausage of hair.. When I first saw it I thought my cats had anaemia because their 'poop' was so pale. (ha! ha! ha!).
I grow barley outside in the garden and once a week I pick a handful, rinse it, and they love the grass. It definately helps with the hairballs, because it comes out the other way. Or you can get a palatable formula at the vet for hairballs.. I am not toooooooo sure about the butter bit!!!
Please can all the cat/pet lovers here go to the question,
OCTOBER & h and CHETCO must certainly be friends????? 2 hours ago. answer it please and another question : Why do people rate ANSWERS THUMBS DOWN when they are goo and factual ans.................

Usually if a cat has hairballs the vomit looks like long wadded up pieces of hair. It's quite gross and when it dries you can tell it is just a long wad of hair.

Yes and no. My cat has had hairballs and sometimes her vomit looks like regular vomit, and sometimes it has hair in it.

Yes, I have two cats, one long haired and one short haired. Its kind of gross, but you could tell if it is a hairball... It will be kind of long, with hair in it..lol.. if its not a hair ball it will have food chunks in it. The vet told me to brush them every other day, to keep them from getting hairballs.. Hope that helps.

when you look at the vomit you will see a length of fur about 2.1/2"long the rest will be food if the cat did not bring it up it would go hard and set in the intestine so give it some butter once a week this is the only way a cat can bring up the fur it swallows when washing its self ...

hair is very obvious when puked up...it looks just like a bunch of wet hair.
we have 4 indoor cats. we learned that our cats need food for indoor cats or one that is for hairballs...
we use purina indoor cat formula and that has taken care of our hairball problem. we no longer have hairball vomit.
good luck with your kitty

It may or may not be from hairballs; however, hairballs are the most common reason. You can give your cat an eyedropper full of vegetable oil to help him puke up the ball and keep it from your floor. It's gross but at least you can control when and where he pukes. It's also completely humane.
