has been deployed to Iraq twice in the Army...he came back his last time and was watching the news and he said "you know, I didnt realize this war was so bad until I got back", at first I thought he meant he was against the war now so i was like whatre you talking about???....he said..."this war is portrayed by the media as being so intensely dangerous and nothing but horrific things going on when thats not the case at all. There are 150000 or so soldiers in Iraq and only 100 died this month, the chances of living are significantly higher and we have the same chance of dying in our own home as we do here, not to devalue anyones life b/c its sad but the media is so liberal all they do is portray us and this war in a negative manner and its degrading"....

Why does the media and anyone for that matter talk about things that they have NO CLUE about, and try to bend it any way they can to try and prove their own personal battle, to try and manipulate Americans????

I have a friend who was in Iraq too. These are two different points of view. He was there and he didn't feel threatened because he lived it everyday. The media does over exaggerate it, but they over-exaggerate everything, it's not about being liberal, it's about ratings. Have you watched the news? They usually start off by cramming as many murders as possible into the first five minutes.
The point is that this many people shouldn't be dying there if the president declared combat over. The combat is not over, he just wanted to look like he achieved something, we still call it the WAR in Iraq.
On the topic of manipulation, what do you think the president is doing by going on and on about security?

Well, yeah. A teacher at a school I used to work at did a tour in Iraq as part of the Guard...he pretty much said the same thing. Their unit helped build schools and infrastructure.

However...the media never reports positive stuff...we all know that. And our boys dying in Iraq is of significantly more importance than some kid getting candy.

Heck, the Iraq's should be the ones handing out candy and building roads and such, not our troops.

So the war is being portrayed accurately in my opinion. The fuzzy wuzzy stuff is left out because we shouldn't have to be doing that anyways. War is war...that is the part being reported...the fighting, killing, etc.

I've said all along its the media that is destroying this country, reporting things that the enemy can get hold of and use against the soldiers, but they say its freedom of speech and no one can do anything about it....maybe we need a line of information coming from the war area that is true ,from the soldiers mouth and you never see them on the news its like they don't want them to talk , I wish the souldiers would start a blog

hmm...can you really look at the fact that only 100 soldiers died this month like a statistic? those people assumibly all had family and thats a hundred more people without a father, mother, son, daughter, so on. i feel for those families having do deal with what must be uunbearible greif...i can say i support what they do, but the biggest question on everyones mind is probably when is enough enough? is considerable progress being made? is there and end and a defenite point? as far as portraying the war like it is the soldiers fault they should know better..when the order is to go you must go..but not everyone is that blind...

I don't really think it's to manipulate Americans. Seriously, think about it; when you read the news what catches your eye? The BAD stuff! Who died, who was murdered, a fire, etc. There is so much going on in Iraq that the public isn't aware of--good things! Helping children, bringing in medicine, building. And much much more. All everybody hears about is all the negative things and I'm sick and tired of it, too. The media always focuses on the bad things and they probably think they are doing us a favor by relaying all this "newsworthy" information back to us. There are many gullible people out there who believe every negative report.

The media do manipulate things to get people to agree with their point of view. Just imagine if we had had television and radio back in the American Revolution. The media would probably being saying how terrible it was that our men were dying for freedom and that we would be better off staying under English Rule!

What your Friend did when many AMERICAN were kills in American and OUTSIDE American by the AMERICAN who always manipulated the fact and reality?

The media have always reported the very worst scenarios in order to improve ratings or improve sales.
