Yesterday my 40 lb. child jumped on my right hip. At the time I was laying on my left side napping on the couch. Last night I couldn't walk, and when I finally did..I had to cling to the walls. My legs aren't working right. Today I went to the doctor, and found out there is no cushoning between my hip soccet and femer bone. Any of you used to dealing with hip pain? I am 26 and the hip probs started after having my child (used to have very narrow hips). What kind of questions should I ask the doctor? Anyone want to share their experinces? Thank you ~Rosanne~

The doctor is obliged to tell you the cause of the "loss of cushioning". What you have is arthritis of the hip joint. You are very young to have degenerative arthritis unless you damaged your hip sometime back which in this case is called traumatic arthritis. Ever been on steroids long term, or been on alcohol to excess, or doing deep sea dives? The reason I asked is you might be suffering from avascular necrosis of the femoral head which could lead to early degenerative arthritis. Ask your doctor about this condition or look it up on the net.

Narrow hips makes no difference in this case. What you describe sounds like there is a loss of joint space between the head of the femur and the hip socket. This can happen due to trauma, osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, or perhaps congenital hip dysplasia. At 26 you are to young for osteoarthritis of the hip unless there is an underlying problem. Once lost the joint space will not improve, perhaps you can manage the pain, but I believe based on what you wrote you may be in for a hip replacement in the future.
