Because people cannot think for themselves. They need to have a set of "guidelines" made to follow. Other people can't believe in themselves because they see believing in gods as a bigger cause, so to speak.

Creating and reproducing are two different issues. We couldn't deny that we are being reproduced by our parents but where is our origin of birth. Do you deny that we are make up of Air,Water,Blood(fire) and Flesh(mud). Don't you know we are the creation of God? The benevolent God that provided everything for us,look around into the world out into the universe, we are living on a globe that can spin on its own, with day and night, food grown out of the ground, poultry animals , fishes, the air that we breath, the water we need and most important of all the composition of oxygen in the atmosphere to keep us alive. Can't you see the generosity and the mercy of the creator. What do we have to believe in ourselves, we are so weak and helpless.
We can't even provide ourselves with the fundamental elements
to survive, what if that is no oxygen in the air, whatever food on earth had extinct, we couldn't find a single drop of water even in the sea or river. Can you create all this necessities on your own?
If your answer is yes, then you better believe only in yourself.

Well I cannot speak for all the people, just myself. But I believe in the God of the Holy Bible because I have seen all the physical, historical & scientific evidence that I need to see to throughly convince me that God does exist! Even Albert Einstein a famous scientist who was an athesist, after he studied all the issues of science in his field of expertise, became a deist! (someone that believes God created the Universe) All it takes is a person's willingness to examine ALL the facts & to actually take a careful examination of what the Scriptures say..to find the truth!

I believe in myself, most of the time, but that's because I have made many mistakes throughout the past 35 years and I'm sure I'll make a few more. God never makes mistakes and never lies and never leaves. I feel more safe in His arms than my own. I believe that God created me and the least I can do is believe in Him and love Him and worship & honor Him. Believing in the existence of God is a huge thing, a huge, personal step to make in one's life. I think that believing in God is being more open-minded rather than being closed-minded. If all I had to rely on was myself and other humans, I would be scared most of the time. I don't trust people much any more because of my past. But God has never let me down and I trust Him continually. I have lots of questions for Him but while I am on earth I'll live and love and continue to believe in Him and tell others about Him.
God is not out of the realm of possibilities. Being open-minded to God's existence or a supreme being's existence or an intelligent designer's existence is taking a huge step into having faith. That says a lot about a person. They are willing to open themselves up to the possibility that He exists and created all this. I think it's close-minded to see that millions upon millions of people for 6000 years have believed in God and decide not to further investigate this God and just say that He absolutely does not exist. Not to read the Bible and talk with believers to hear what they have to say about it, not to ask questions and actually listen to the answers and think about it is close-minded. If you think there might be a possibility to His existence, keep going with that thought and find out. If you just shut yourself off and refuse to listen to reason, then you are being close-minded. I believe in one God, the God that sent Jesus here to tell us more about Him. There are lots of religions out there to explore. At least be open-minded and open-hearted to start exploring the possibility that He does exist and is our Creator. Being close-minded is weak and easy.
God bless and I pray that you look for Him and find Him. He is great!

Believing in yourself is not new, and it's not bad if its with the right mind set. But self (worship) believing that there is no need to worship God are no need for God. Is not a good thing, and its not a new think mankind has been trying to make that work since the beginning.... And it is still not working.

God has given us a "Moral Compass" to live by. If we did not have that....we'd be in alot of trouble. Like we have the "Law" so
we have a source of civility, not chaos. We can love God, and
ourselves. We NEED to love ourselves. But we need to love
GOD more!! I think its interesting that life is...so mysterious.
If we knew what happens after we die, for sure, then where would
our strength of character come from? Our lessons we need to
to learn, to grow. If you only believe in yourself......where do you
get your morals, etc. So, if you then believe in God also....HE is
where you will get all your needs met. And know how to live right.

It is a given choice by God to believe if you wish. People believe because of salvation unto eternal life. Now lots of people believes in themselves and are some successful ones on this earth. Depressed one do not believe in themselves and have problems coping.

A belief in God IS a belief in yourself... because communion with God gives you the power to tap into your sub-conscious (some may interpret this as knowing God) and realise things you may not have consciously known about yourself. Similarly esoteric practices like Tarot and Astrology can tap into your sub-conscious and empower you by helping you to learn more about yourself and thereby believe in your hidden abilities. I think those who believe in God do not see themselves as separate entities from God - God knows them and they know God. To believe in God is to believe in yourself and give hope a voice and a home.

The only way I can believe in myself is to truly know who I am. The only way I can truly know who I am is to believe in the one who created me. So, I can only believe in myself if I first believe in God. It's all about a RELATIONSHIP, not a religion.
